I was an Alpha Sigma Alpha I ran cross country for our school too though, so I didn't get to go to all the fun stuff.

No, but one of my really good friends was, so I hung out over at the house all the time. Sorority-by-proxy.

I posted something like this a few months back, and I think most ppl were not!
I rushed DG but never bid. DH was a frat boy!

No. I went to a big state school where Greek life was active, but you didn't feel left out if you didn't join.
Many of my friends were really active for the first few years, but then they fizzled out.

No. My grandma was a Delta Sigma Theta and would have shamed me if I rushed any other sorority. My mom said I could, but we just wouldn't tell grandma and I didn't feel like dealing with the drama.

@mrsjyw: I rushed DG too! I dropped on initiation because I knew I was going to transfer schools. The Greek system at my alma mater SUCKED

Nope! We don't have them in the UK and I must admit I don't really understand what they are! Like some sort of cool kids club?

Nope. I went to a small liberal-arts school with no greek system. I was an acapella nerd instead

I had several friends who were Greek--I could have never afforded it but I would have liked to rush. Greek life is very big at my alma mater.

Kappa Kappa Gamma! I loved being in a sorority! I'm about to join the Junior League which I feel like is basically sorority life for adults (but with way more philanthropy!). Win!

Yes, I was an Alpha Chi Omega. I went to a big state school and everyone I knew was rushing, so I did too.
DH was in a fraternity, and still participates in a lot of alumni activities, he was actually the president of his alumni association until recently.

Alpha Lambda Delta - freshman honors society, aka dorks! No real greek life at my small school.

Nope, my school didn't have it...I probably wouldn't have done it anyways. I got along better with guys than girls in college.

No, I didn't go to a school that had a greek system.

@grizz: did they make you sign official quitting papers? My friend had to promise not to reveal the secrets.

Yes, great experience with wonderful ladies, I think it really helped me break out of my shell.

Yes it was a great experience! It always makes me terribly sad to hear the negativity that can surround it, either from ignorance or poor personal experience. A manager once related it to "buying" friends. Best money ever spent, I suppose lol. A whole $30/month in fees

Yes - I really loved it!
@MamaMoose: hahah Yes! Are you joining in Nashville? I just transferred from their league - it's awesome!

@BakerBee: Yes!! My provisional training starts in Sept. I'm freakishly excited!
@blackbird: Do not ever read the book "Pledged". The woman supposedly went undercover in a sorority and wrote about all the horrible things she experienced. She basically tries to make horrible things happen so she can then say how awful sororities are. I may or may not have chucked the book across the living room half way through because I was so furious.

Haha, nope, no Greek at my school.
@MamaMoose: my JL sucks, I am not returning this year, so sad.

@MamaMoose: There are so many great girls in the Nashville JL. I loved my provisional year.. being an active is a little less exciting.
