@MamaMoose: yeah, it just wasn't a good fit for the time and skill set I have. I had such high hopes too!

AOPi here- glad I did it since I met some great people that way, but it wasn't a very big part of my life (sororities weren't residential at my alma mater).

Nope. The greek scene wasn't huge at my school, but not tiny. My roommate from freshman year joined one, and I hate to say it, but she was the stereotypical sorority girl. I'm pretty sure she subsisted on diet coke and celery alone, and came home passed out drunk at least twice a week. Living with her for a year and dealing with her sorority sister friends turned me off the greek system forever, ha.

We had a small but not very influential Greek system at my school. The traditional sororities pretty much kept to themselves, but the fraternities tended to throw parties and I would go. I probably would have pledged a historically Black sorority like DST or AKA (most likely the former). There was not a huge presence when I was in school, but there was a larger presence after I graduated.

@mfa_lady, me too
@mamamoose, I'm angry thinking about it. I know there are shady frats everywhere, but grrrr. Not mine

Nope. My parents and sister were, but it's not my scene.
@scarletbegonia: There aren't sororities in Canada? I like your country more and more!

@grizz: @happygal: me too!! I was in Phi Mu for about 1.5 years and then withdrew. Best decision for me!

I was coming on just to chime in that, while I wasn't in a sorority, I felt like an honorary member of my husband's fraternity ...
... and then saw @mamamoose is joining my Junior League chapter! I'm starting my first active year, after a few years of this year's president urging me to join. I'll be interested to hear how your provisional "semester" goes - apparently the experience will be very different.

@Katrocap: I think there are a couple of universities that have them, but even then they aren't popular at all. I don't know anyone who was part of one. My university definitely didn't have them.

I was an Alpha Phi at a big state school with a huge Greek system! It was fun and I really loved living in the massive, stereotypical sorority house, but once my four years were done, that was it. I have no desire to remain an active alum or anything like that. To be honest, it all seems quite silly looking back on it now, but it was great at the time and that's all that matters!

Sigma Kappa, and I actually worked at our national HQ for two years. It was a very positive experience for me.

I was an Alpha Phi in college. I had an amazing experience and its opened a ton of doors for me post college with finding friends in new cities and job opportunities.

My school didn't have any. I don't really know much about them to be honest!
