Were you induced to have any of your kids? What made the doctor decide to go ahead with the induction?

I was induced at 39 weeks... odd circumstance b/c my dr really wanted to be the one to deliver and was going to be on vacation by 40 weeks. I was at 3-1/2 cm dilated and I think 40% effaced with painless contractions so she knew it would be an easy induction. We also had to worry about snow/ice and a 40 minute drive so this was easiest.
It went so well, no regrets! Induced at 8, baby by 2:30.

I was induced on my due date. My blood pressure was rising and starting to have issues with my blood sugar. I was feeling awful and had been having false labor for 4 weeks straight.
It didn't work. Probably because I was dilated to a 1 (and that was being generous according to my doc) prior to the induction. Labored for 14 hours, only made it to a 4cm which I had stalled at for 3 hours so I asked for a c-section. C-section went really well!

I knew from the beginning that my dr wouldn't let me go much past 38 weeks because that's the recommendation for di-di twins (two placentas, two sacs). I was induced at 38+1.

yep, at 37 weeks. I was being monitored for low fluid and went in for a check, and my fluid was too low to even measure. they sent me straight to l&d from there, and I hadn't even packed my hospital bag yet! I literally was texting dh a list of things to bring from the room.

I was induced at 40+6 - cervidil overnight and then started pitocin in the morning. My doc's office would only let me go one week overdue. It worked really well despite the fact that my cervix was still high and closed when they inserted the cervidil.

Induced at 40w1d because of preeclampsia. I was on bedrest (after a brief hospital stay) from 37 weeks and BP was only getting worse.
Water broke in the hospital around 5am, few complications because he was in an awkward position (posterior and brow presentation) had him at 8pm that night.

@elljay: I was the exact same dates! 40+6 and doc thought babe would be big (she was average). Induction failed though - I never dilated past a 3. Ended up with a c-section at 7pm the next day. Hoping to go early with the one currently cooking (22 weeks).

I was induced at 41+1 because I had low fluid levels at my NST. I was scheduled for a second induction with DS at 41+1, too, but went into labor on my own the night before.

My dr scheduled an induction for 41 weeks, but I beat him and went into labor on my due date.

I was induced at 40w because of decreased fetal movement at my NST. The induction was not successful - baby became distressed when I contracted - so I ended up having an emergency c section.

Yep. Overdue with both with some medical complications--two losses before E (concern with my placenta breaking down prematurely) and hypertension + protein spillage with T.

I was induced with my first at 38w5d because of low fluid. They have scheduled an induction for this LO at 39w2d because of baby's size. 2 more weeks to go!

@mediagirl: I had one scheduled but the baby came on his own the same day I was supposed to be induced! My doctor didn't want me to go over 41 weeks because it was the holiday (Thanksgiving), he would be out of town, the baby was on the big side, and he didn't want any of the risks of late babies. As it turned out, DS had meconium in the water anyway!! But he was fine.

I was induced with LO1 on 39+6 because of IUGR concerns (although never officially diagnosed). She was born on her due date as a result!

At 37.5 weeks. Pre-eclampsia and IUGR. The placenta was no longer delivering nutrients to the baby and he was at the 0th percentile for growth! So they had to get him out so they could get him fed. He's wonderful and healthy now!

Induced with DD1 at 39w4d due to PIH and a LGA baby. She wasn't born until 40w0d by emergency c-section.

I was induced with #1, my water broke and I was GBS+ and contractions didn't start on their own overnight.
My induced labour/delivery was a million times more difficult than my spontaneous L&D. So much so that I would probably refuse induction if there is a next time.

I was induced at 41+1. My practice will schedule an induction during 41-42 weeks and the way scheduling worked out, that was the best day. (They don't do inductions on the weekends and my due date was right before Labor Day so I had limited days to work with.) I had an ultrasound at my 41-week appointment and the fluid level was borderline low so I kept my induction appointment as scheduled. It went really well and overall, I had a really positive induction experience!

I was induced at 41+3 due to LO2 not being reactive enough at my NST and she wouldn't move her abdomen like they needed her to at the ultrasound. They started pitocin at 10:30 in the morning, broke my water at 2:45pm, and she was out by 6pm. I was able to avoid an epidural like I had wanted and just had the IV meds. So even though I was hoping they would let me go to 42 weeks before inducing, it was actually a pretty good experience!

No induction but I was high risk with both (GD). With LO2 the doctor wanted to induce at 39w, but I convinced her to let me go to 40 since all of my ultrasounds and check ups were good. I went on my own at 39w 1d.

I was at 38w4d (had him at 38w5d) due to high BP. They said it was gestational hypertension.

Avoiding an induction was very high on my list of hopes for my birth. I was glad I didn't have any issues with GD or blood pressure or anything, so I went into labor naturally.

Induced at 41+1 for low fluid and low movement. Hated it, but I did have a vaginal birth and eventually a healthy child. But it was awful.

I was induced at 37 weeks due to Cholestasis. It's highly likely for any future pregnancies as well. (Though the first ended in c section so I'd likely just have another c section at 37 weeks).

I was induced at 34 weeks because my water broke at 28 weeks. They wanted me on hospital bed rest until 34 weeks. I made it the whole 6 weeks! After 34 weeks, there's a higher risk of infection so it's safer for the babies to come out then stay in.

Induced 10 days overdue with baby #2. Had a spontaneous labor with baby 1 the day after my due date.
It was sort of a mini induction though. When I arrived I was having mild contractions about 7 min apart. They gave me a quarter dose of misoprostol, I walked some laps around the hospital and went into full labor. Once strong contractions started I had the baby about 5 hours later.

Spontaneous delivery at 40w4d with #1 but I have a scheduled induction for 40w with this one partly because of my age and partly by choice. I have a very favorable cervix and she said I could if I wanted to. I'm just so done being pregnant. I hope I go into labor before that but she felt it wouldn't take much to push me into labor. Fingers crossed.

I was induced with my first at 38w2d. My water had started leaking mid-day and by late night, I was still not experiencing real contractions. I delivered in the wee hours the next morning.
Contractions started naturally with my 2nd and labor/delivery was quick.

1: Induced at 38 weeks due to pre-e
2: Induced at 40+1 because my doc was really ready to induce me (he wanted to the week prior with no medical reason so I said no) and I was ready to be done.

Induced at 41+1 bc baby was measuring really big. She did end up being 9 lbs. at this point, I was looking forward to an end date!

I had a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks because she was breech, but if she had flipped at the last minute (or if I had agreed to try an ECV and she had flipped) they would have induced right away because she would have been in an unstable position.
pomegranate / 3604 posts
First two no, 3rd yes. it didn't do anything - no dilation or contractions & they were seeing enough decelerations to be concerned so we went with a c-section.
And now all future babies will be a scheduled csection at 35 weeks. No more labouring for me!
