Oh, my dad is a die-hard Republican. I grew up listening to Rush Limbaugh all the time.

I'm an independent. I'm not really that into politics. I know it bothers him. But, I like to draw my own conclusions. I think my mom and I have pretty similar feelings politically. But my parents' opinions didn't really inform mine that much as an adult (although they certainly had more influence when I was a kid.)

They voted, and somewhat kept up and cared, but it wasn't a central household theme. I am very apathetic. This is the first year I cared at all - I've never voted. By the time I decided to vote in the presidential race this year it was too late to register.

My parents definitely care about politics and always go vote and stay informed about the issues, but they didn't really talk about it a lot when we were growing up. They talk about it a lot more now that we're adults and we're ALSO interested in what's going on.

My Dad is in politics (he has run in various elections and has held a couple political posts), so I grew up around politicians, going to fundraising events, helping to disseminate campaign information, manning phones, etc.

They voted (and always took us with them), but that's about it.

My parents (really, my Dad was the driving force behind both of them) were extremely conservative Christian, 1 or 2 issue voters when I was growing up. My dad participated in the Southern Baptist Convention's boycott of Disney when they had "gay days" at Disneyworld. He got extremely angry at me/mom once when I was in middle school and randomly picked out some cute underwear with minnie mouse on it, because--oh yeah, we were supposed to be boycotting Disney. He participated in boycotts of several other companies if they supported abortion or a whole list of other things. My parents have always voted.

Now that I'm an adult, I'm prettttty much a raging liberal. I think I even convinced my mom to Vote for Obama in the last two elections, and I think this because she refuses to tell anyone in our family who she voted for, so I think it must be Obama. I was more politically active in Texas when we lived there. I was even a democratic district representative at the state convention once, during the presidential election 5 years ago.

So, in spite of our very different political beliefs, I do credit my parents for teaching me that politics are something to be passionate about. Seeing their example growing up made me feel strong in my own convinctions. I helped elect the first gay, hispanic, female sheriff of Dallas. And I'm still super proud of that.

But now we live in another state. =)

My parents definitely were and still are, but I grew up a few miles from DC so I feel like that's not surprising. Both of my parents worked for the Federal government and both are very liberal. My mom is retired now and spends most of her time at home watching MSNBC. She is obsessed lol. She was also a very dedicated volunteer with the Obama campaign over the past year and even got sent to Richmond to help with voting down there. I think it's really cool how involved she was because I generally think of the hardcore campaigners as young, energetic folk, not retired people haha

My parents are closted about their polictical beliefs. Well, I guess maybe that's not true. It's just something they've never really wanted to bring up. It's strictly forbidden at dinner time at all of our holidays. But, I bet if I asked my Dad to talk more about it he'd do so. And then I'd want to punch him in the throat. Haha. No, seriously.

He and I do not see eye to eye on how money should be allocated, so we just avoid that whole topic entirely!

They were not at all interested when I was growing up, but now I've converted my Mom and she shares many political views with me.
Although she thinks of herself as a conservative, she agrees with me and my liberal views on many issues.
