Stupid and fart are bad words in our house. We have never discussed curse words and try to minimize their use so, "bad" words are minor ones. We get scolded by the 4 year old if we use stupid.
We use toot instead of fart.
I also discourage the use of the word panties.

Haha DH HATES the word panties. So we say underwear.
We don't use stupid or shut up. She's also started saying "freaking" but I swear we don't say it that often so I'm surprised by how much and how correctly she uses it. I'm trying to get her to stop.

hmmm...my husband keeps telling me that I should tone done my usage of "butt" and poop related jokes, but so far I haven't been listening. 
I call Peppa pig "Poopa pig", for instance.

Ummmm f*ck and godammit. Oops.
We limit words like stupid and shut up and will gently say it's not nice but those haven't been an issue. We had a fly problem and now we keep saying flies are jerks.

Well it was mostly just curse words until he "got in trouble" at daycare for saying stupid so we had to make it a big taboo. Now he is always correcting my parents and in laws. "We don't say that!"

I'm not really all that big on anything other than swear words being "bad". For example, the word stupid isn't inherently bad. But you shouldn't call someone else stupid. I also don't see anything wrong with fart. We call both my kids farty-pants at times, lol. To me whether you call it a fart, a toot, a boop, it's still the same thing.

@mediagirl: OMG my daughter scolds us if we use a "bad" word too. We don't say stupid/ dumb, hate (we say don't like), shut up, fart (we say puff) , or butt (we say tush or bottom).
It's hilarious when she hears those words in a movie or on the radio- she will scold them too!

We also have sub-rules for inappropriate words. For example:
We should not say butt but somehow butt-butt is ok. And butt pronounced like "boot" is approved. But only spoken at home with family. And never say inappropriate words at school. LOL. Fart and panties are a go! Especially Aunty Panties. Just not at school.

I kind of go with the idea of "no bad words" ... thought, meaning and actions are what I care about. If LO picks up a cuss word (which is the only word I'd consider "bad"), we nonchalantly tell her that's a word that adults can use, and I'll usually apologize for using it around her. If she says things like "stupid", we'all consider the context and remind her of a better word (but that's really only if she's being mean - the word doesn't really matter).

No one is allowed to say TRUMP in our house.
Any words that are mean or hurtful are not allowed. One particular one that really gets my blood boiling is "retard(ed)."

@Meowkers: He was on the TV the other night, and our 3 year old said, "Is that Donald Trump?" ... I honestly felt gutted for a second. First of all, I'm not sure how she even knew (we rarely have the TV on), but I thought we had a few years until she'd know who he was. Sounds silly, but it was so weird.

Personally, I'm trying to work on removing ableist words from my vocabulary. It's really hard because some are so ingrained (stupid, dumb, crazy, nuts idiot, lame, etc.), but I'm making some progress. This list of ableist terms and alternatives has really helped:

Right now my son's only 15 months so this hasn't become a concern yet, for him, but I imagine I will try to discourage him from using ableist words as well.
As far as squeemish words, like fart or panty, while I may not like using them myself, I don't think I'd teach them as off-limits words.

@Meowkers: @littlejoy: I was observing in my son's new class, and one of the older kids ran to tell the teacher "he said Donald trump!" About another older kid. She was like "ok." Haha

We haven't come across bad words get, but we have words that are allowed at home (booty, booty butt and using fart
And poop silly) and not appropriate outside of the house. DS is really good about it too.
