My kids are in summer camp, and the camp gives out medals every week for things like Most Selfless, Karate Kangaroo, etc. The medals are plastic but painted gold and silver, and my kids are so proud of them. So we've kept them in a drawer so far.
The medals are kind of piling up though, and I figure they'll keep "winning" them (this is America after all, the land where everyone is a winner). I was considering keeping the ones from this year, and getting rid of the ones from previous years. But actually my eldest hasn't been winning medals this summer and took solace in his medals from last summer. We still had them lying around, which worked out nicely. But maybe we shouldn't be saving stuff like that. Not sure.
My initial take is: if you win a true achievement and a real trophy, then we will hold onto it until you graduate from college. If it's a plastic medal, then maybe we hold onto it until the kids are old enough to realize that it's not worth much. Still thinking it through though.
What are you going to do with all the trophies and medals that your kids bring home?
