Do you have time to take them anywhere before bedtime? What are your evenings like?
We'll sometimes go to the library, mall or playground.

We usually go to the playground and have a picnic dinner in the park after playing. Then we head home for bath and bedtime.

@woodentulip: haha yes. Complete and utter mayhem!
Get home from daycare, throw together any kind of food for L and try to make it healthy, maybe 20 minutes of playtime then milk and bath and bedtime stories.
I don't usually get to change out of my work clothes until after L is in bed.

Lately whoever picks up DS takes him to the playground or the beach (we live super close). We either bring dinner along or he goes home to eat, but he's usually not that hungry after day care. It's working much better than going straight home... I think it helps him unwind after the long day

Nope! We get home and she wants to eat right then!! Then we play for an hour or so. Then bath, brush teeth, books, and bed!

Not really, we go home, I cook dinner and we play outside or go for a walk. Every once in awhile I will take her to Target but it's complete meltdown by the time we get out of there. it's best to just go straight home.

Sometimes we go to the park when we get home around 5pm, or play outside in the yard. Then around 5:45/6 I start dinner and try to have it done by 6:30. Then we eat, bathe, play a little and then bed at 8!

It is a race against the clock until bedtime. We pick LO up from daycare, rush home and make dinner, then she plays for 10-15 min while we clean up and then we head upstairs for bath, stories and bedtime.

No, we only have a little over and hour from the time we get home until his bedtime so it's usually dinner, a little playtime (depending on whether, we'll go in our yard) and then start the bedtime routine.

We pick her up around 5 and she is usually super tired and cranky because she hasn't napped well. We get home and play for about half an hour but she is totally clumsy through tiredness and falls down/hurts herself/ whines until milk, bath and bedtime. She is usually in bed by 6.15pm. It sucks, basically!

LO is 2.5 years old... I pick him up around 4:30-5pm, fight traffic and get home around 5:15-5:30pm. Then we potty --> he plays while I fix dinner --> he eats dinner while I clean up the mess --> He plays for another 30 minutes while I clean up and set his bath --> potty --> bath --> ask him to clean up toys --> teeth brushing --> story --> bedtime at 7:30... Or that's what I shoot for.
So to answer your question, we do have a bit of time, but not enough to go anywhere.

I pick up DS around 4. If the weather is dry, we go to the park or do errands. If it is bad, we come home and play. Lately the weather has been uncooperative so we've been stuck inside.

It's a mad rush! I pick her up at 5:30, get home between 6-6:30, was up, fix dinner, eat, get ready for bed. It's crazy!

We walk home from daycare. Sometimes she lets me in the house and sometimes she immediately starts hunting for a neighbor to play with. If nobody is around we often head to a park. We've done the library but that's a little overwhelming for the end of the day.
I wrestle LO inside as early as I can and start dinner when DH gets home. She eats dinner and we join her when we can. Brush teeth, books, songs, and bed.

No, I pick her up at 5, we get home at 5:30, I try to have dinner on the table by 6-6:15, then bath, book and bed at 7.

@sunny: we're the same way. I pick her up, I make dinner and LO plays a bit with daddy or by herself if daddy's working late. We eat. I clean up the food/mess while she plays for a few minutes and digests and then it's bath, milk, books, bed.

No way, I pick him up at 5:30pm it's nearly 6pm until we're home. Then it's taking of shoes, jackets, hats etc and of to the kitchen to prepare dinner. Then it's his sippy of milk immediately after and calling dad (I'm solo Mo-Th). Getting ready for bed after that and then story and of to bed at 7-7:15pm. Then I clean the kitchen and slump onto the couch. Luckily I usually get to work in jeans/t-shirts so I don't really have to change out of those.

If i get off a little early, i can take her to a park. But DH picks her up, they go home and play downstairs. I get home around 5:30. We eat dinner, do a bath, play before bed. She goes down by 7, so..*shrug*.

Our routine is pick up at 415-430, home by 435, I change, then I change her into bedtime cloths and/or give bath if its bath night, then we play until 5-515, then she has dinner and I pack her lunch/bottles for the next day, once we're done with that we play/go for a walk/sit outside or some combination of all of those and then by 615 or so she's ready for bed, We read 3 books then it's crib/paci/blankey/night night. Then I go downstairs to help DH with dinner OR make dinner and then it's eat, watch tv until 815 when I pump, then at 830 wash bottles/pump and upstairs to my bed around 9 and repeat the next day

We usually (lately) get home at 5:00 and Xander immediately wants to eat, so we do his dinner. Then we go for a walk around the neighborhood and play for 30 minutes - 1 hour depending on how well he napped. Bath if it's a bath night, then teeth brush, book, and bed between 6:00 and 7:00! No time for much else.
Our friend recently had a birthday party at 6:00 though, so we had dinner at home and then took him to that. He was definitely due for bed, but he had fun playing with the other kids, so it turned out okay. We came home at 7:00 and put him right to bed after that.

My husband picks up at 6 and I usually get home shortly after. We try to do something - park, library, play outside or beach... We did pizza on the beach last night but its getting harder since its darker earlier, waaahhhhhh.
Tub by 7:30, pjs, books in bed, asleep by 8 usually. Sometimes 8:30 like last night.
