@Rubies: What base do you usually use?
@Fronkinzankinsbride: Yum!

We love any kind of smoothie! We do 1/2 cup of fat-free french vanilla yogurt, 1 cup orange juice, and handful (or two... depending on my mood) of fruit. This morning we did strawberry, banana, and peach. I have found the certain fruits - in particular, blueberries - can totally overpower the smoothie. I've learned to not waste my "good fruit" on smoothies with those overpowering fruits, as I can't taste them anyways.
I've been wanting to experiment with kale, but my husband has been apprehensive.

Banana
Frozen berries (currently used blueberries and raspberries)
Orange juice
Spinach
Ground flax seed
Greek yogurt

1/2 C + 4 frozen strawberries
1/2 C frozen blueberries
1.5 C apple juice
1 banana
3 ice cubes
Puree until smooth. SO good. The banana gives it the smoothness you might otherwise get from a dairy ingredient.

@BakerBee: Do it! I use spinach, kale, or a combo in all my smoothies. My husband used to look at me like I was crazy, but he agrees that you *cannot* taste the greens... and now requests a green smoothie every single morning.
I used to make my smoothies with almond milk, which doesn't mask the flavor of the greens as well, but is still really good. Now I use about 1/2 cup of OJ (plus some water), which I find is just a brighter flavor - and it completely masks any greens flavor.
Caveat: I would stay away from bitter greens, like arugula or chard. Those you can taste.

@Fronkinzankinsbride: Any ice or all smooth? I'm a smoothie dummy!

@autumnlove: Yogurt if I have any plain left or just apple juice. I don't like my smoothies super thick.
bananas / 9357 posts
I don't do ice. But I like orange juice, plain yogurt, banana, strawberries and blueberries. The I'll add water if it's too thick. If I don't have everything like this morning I just did milk, strawberries and blueberries (frozen fruit).

@septca: Do you use fresh spinach or do you think frozen and thawed would work?
papaya / 10560 posts
Probably not that healthy but oh well!
Frozen peach and strawberries. Plain Greek yogurt, coconut or almond milk. Spinach, banana, ice.
Sometimes I throw in pB or avocado or grapes. Whatever is on hand.

I love avocado + banana + coconut milk + honey. Sometimes if I want a more tropical feel I'll also add pineapple and OJ!

@lovehoneybee: I usually use fresh spinach. I have never tried frozen spinach (that you buy frozen) - seems like it would be kind of slimy? BUT I often freeze fresh spinach and then use that for smoothies - can't tell the difference at all (and it's a great way to save spinach that's about to turn).

My fav right now is: 1/2 banana, 6 bigfrozen strawberries, handful of fresh spinach, and a generous splash of OJ and whole milk. The frozen berries eliminate the need for ice and it whips up so fast in the bullet!
The OJ seems to help mask the green flavor, but I just got some orange-carrot juice to try in place of regular OJ to up the veggie content.

Banana, frozen fruit (usually some sort of berry), apple, spinach or kale, flax seeds and water.

My two faves are:
Greens + coconut milk + blueberries + strawberries
and
Greens + coconut milk + peaches + fresh ginger
I also usually add chia seeds or hemp hearts to both of these. Good luck!

I do pretty much the same as @septca: every day except for a few modifications. For DH and I I put 2 bananas, frozen strawberries, ground flax seed, two handfuls of spinach or kale (and I really do mean large handfuls), some OJ (although sometimes we use that V8 pomegranate blueberry juice), and some cottage cheese. I pour DH his glass and then I add a spoonful of Nutella into the other half and blend that for me It's pretty much my sweet treat for the day! Typically if I have that, later that night I'm not craving anything for dessert!
