The Clorox toilet cleaning wand! I can never live without this again.

@littlek: ha ha! Indeed! Not possible at the moment though, sadly. One day though!

- i use a 50/50 solution of vinegar + water to clean most things
- biokleen's bac-out gets the smell/stains out of everything
- dr bronner's castile soap to make foaming hand soap and to clean just about everything
- super washing soda + citric acid = diy dishwashing detergent
- soap nuts for laundry
that's what we use just about daily!

Vinegar!! I use it on most everything, trying to get away from other stuff with LO now, and a dog who licks the floor, lol.

@Mrs. Bee: What is a soap nut? I've been wanting to try your dishwasher soap recipe too!

Clorox/Lysol wipes. I have a chicken thing so I NEED that.
@Mrs. Bee: what do you clean with the vinegar solution and is that the foaming hand soap recipe you posted on the blog?

A thin, stiff bristled brush (a grout brush) for cleaning between tiles and around taps in the bathroom.
Anti bacterial floor wipes - they're large thick wipes that you can clean your kitchen/bathroom/any floor with when you don't have time to get the mop out!

I try to only clean with water actually! I use Norwex cloths, but there is a simalar cloth called eCloths. They are a very high quality microfiber cloth that picks up all the germs, and that way there is no need to even use cleaning solutions!

@Bao: YES! I can't clean the toilet without them. I almost get a weird satisfaction out of using them because they're so easy!
My others would be vinegar and baking soda. I can clean pretty much anything with those two items. Cheap, easy, no crazy chemicals. I switched to avoid excess chemicals, but I noticed that vinegar and baking soda do a better job in most cases! When I clean with vinegar I do 50/50 vinegar/water, and when I clean with baking soda I just add enough water to make a paste.

@grizz: Haha I know, it makes cleaning the toilet a little less annoying.
admin / watermelon / 14210 posts
@Bao: there's a post about it on the blog! they're berries you use to do your laundry!
@regberadaisy: i clean everything with vinegar -- cabinets, toys, floors, counters, laundry, microwave, dishwasher.... everything!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
@Mrs. Bee: How did I miss that?? Going to find it now, thanks!

I love microfiber cleaning cloths, I get a huge pack from Costco and pretty much use them for cleaning, drying, etc.
I also like bleach, it's old school and I know it's not the best thing to use, but I can't get on board with vinegar for some things.
coconut / 8305 posts
@grizz: Same!!! Sometimes I'll add a little lemon to the vinegar so the smell isn't so strong but otherwise that's all we use! I also prefer reusing our old newborn prefolds as hand towels!

I absolutely live for Mrs. Myers Basil All-Purpose cleaner. The scent is so fresh and crisp that just a few spritzes on the counters help everything to feel cleaner and calmer in moments.

I love cheap washcloths for cleaning. I use them to clean spots on the carpet, mop the floors, clean the sink/tub, everything I can. As far as products, I love these:
- Method Wood floor cleaner
- Method laundry detergent/fabric softener spray
- Vinegar/soap/water mix for tile, counters
- Straight vinegar for windows and walls, and in a pinch I'll spray straight vinegar in the toilet to clean it quickly.
- Seventh Generation dish soap (the free and clear kind)

I'm in love with the pledge dusting cloths/swiffer style cloths. They pick up and hold onto dust like nothing else. I don't bother with the swiffer duster that has a wand, just stick to the flat sheets and you can pick up so much crud!
I also LOVE Mr. Clean magic erasers. They clean porceline and finely textured surfaces (like the fridge/fridge handle) really well. You can use them with whatever cleaning solution you like - commercial or home made... because vinegar and baking soda are actually chemicals, too

@evansjamie: I need to get some cheap wash cloths, what a great idea! I always use paper towel and hate wasting so much.
ETA: I've been wanting to try that dish soap, so you love it?
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Bao: I like it. We have it at work, and I'm just waiting for my bottle of Mrs. Meyers to run out at home so I can get this. I'm sensitive to a lot of chemicals, so I like that it doesn't have an over the top smell like the Mrs. Meyers does, which smells strongly like laundry detergent.

@Bao: I LOVE my clorox disinfecting wipes. So easy to use and does a great job!!
vinegar and baking soda are my other two must have cleaning products.

@mossyslane: Mmmm I love Mrs Myers stuff. The basil scent is my favorite!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@grizz: I'll have to sniff the basil scent! Right now I have the lemon verbena soap, and the scent is so strong (and was to me before I was pregnant). I love the geranium scent, but my stores don't carry it anymore.

- Clorox Green Works natural wipes
- Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
- Swiffer dusting cloths
- Vinegar/water mixture (if you want to make this smell better, save the rinds from your citrus fruits - oranges, lemons, etc - and soak them in a large container of the water and vinegar mixture for several days, then transfer to a spray bottle. Voila, citrus cleaner!)

Looks like I'm in good company, I use vinegar and water for just about everything! Thanks for the tip on making it smell nicer, @IRunForFun: DH will definitely appreciate that.
I'll also second the Mr Clean Magic Erasers. My favorite thing ever- it's never failed me!
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@Mrs. Bee: @Beebug: does it make everything smell of vinegar? Do you use white vinegar? I like the sound of more natural products. Oh and I guess it doesn't kill germs though... do you use anything over the top?
Thanks loads for the tips, everyone, they're great! My transformation to Cinderella is almost complete : ) Now I just need to get off my butt and buy this stuff!
pomelo / 5509 posts
@travelgirl1: Vinegar is actually 5% acetic acid and has been proven to kill bacteria and viruses. I read an article once that said it can kill off cold/flu viruses, but isn't as effective with food borne bacteria. So basically it's a good general disinfectant, but if you've had raw meat on a surface, you'd want to use something stronger.

@IRunForFun: Great, thanks so much! I love your citrus tip too : )
