I kind of want to try and use less plastics so I just ordered the Foogo straw cup and maybe have DD drink more from an open cup at home.
What cups does your LO use? When did they start drinking from an open cup consistently?

Foogo for out and about. At home she drinks out of a mason jar that I got these gripper sleeves and lids for. She's 18 months and we sometimes take the tops off but she's mostly still using lids. I like that she has to tip them up like open cups though.

Mainly open cups by 17 months.
She tends to smack her cups on the table so I give her plastic munchkin cups or we use take n toss with the lids off.

Munchkin insulated straw cups are his favorite, much to my dismay. They're a PITA to clean!

We have Take and Toss, Thermos Funtainer and a Skiphop Straw Bottle that we rotate.

ZoliBot cups everywhere. Munchkin sometimes at home, but she tends to just throw them any which way and I hate cleaning up spills/leaks. Just got the Foogo and Funtainer, but she doesn't like how heavy they are yet (17 months). I'll also use the Thermos flip-top plastic ones for her, but I have to really watch because the water spills out if it's flipped up.

@dolphin: My LO is 26 months. I give her shot glasses to use as "cup" because they hold just the right amount of liquid and is small enough for her to use. She's dropped them once or twice on accident and they're really small and thick glass, so no damage done. I suspect if she threw them against the kitchen tile floor, things might be different, but she's 26 months and knows better than to throw things now. Or at least I'd like to think so. I also got her an OXO tot cup for big kids that's also the perfect size and has a rubber grip thing on the outside. I don't use sippy cups except for day care anymore because I'd rather she get used to drinking out of open cups.

Camelbaks, the zoli bot, good old fashioned sippy cups (by playtex, I used the same kind as a kid), and regular open cups.

She has two munchkin straw cups I think. And an insulated playtex straw cup. All have been great with no leaking!

DD1 will only drink out of a straw. When we give her an open cup or water bottle she refuses to drink and asks for a straw. 
We have a bunch of Take & Toss straw cups at home as well as a Lollacup that she uses for water only. For out and about, I just bring straws with me.

He drinks from open cups. The sippy cups we bought were too hard for him to drink out of after fast flow nipples, so we let him sip a little bit of water from our cup, and it was all over from there. If we are out and about, we use one of the Nuk sippy cups, because it seems easier to drink from. Or I just get a kids cup with a straw.

We use these for meal times without a lid. We stopped using the lid around 20 months. I found them on amazon, though I don't think they still carry them, http://www.eiokidscup.com/products/mason-jar-sleeves
