Riffing off of Mediagirl's thread... I'm curious what your SO's studied in college.
Mrs. Bee majored in English... too bad blogging wasn't a major haha!
What did your SO major in? Do they use their major in their work?

DH ended up dropping out, but he was going for an Art/Digital Design degree.

Econ! His job is not related directly to economics but I think a good understanding of Econ is a benefit to any professional!

My DH did not attend college, but rather apprenticed/worked at a tattoo studio.

DH doubled majored in business marketing and business management. It only took him 3 years to graduate!

Molecular biology and genetics...but he's now an economist! @MamaMoose: Before grad school, he was like, "what's economics?"
He actually uses some of his under grad degree in his current field because he does a lot of research around biotechnology.

Computer Science was his undergrad. MBA for grad school.
We both keep kicking around the idea of going back to school at the same time--him for a second master's in Finance and me for a PhD in Library Sci.
pipe dreams....

@Freckles: I know! I knew nothing about it until I met DH, it's a difficult field to get into though.

Corporate Finance
Yep! He does financial process improvement for large manufacturing companies.

Computer science and mathematics, completed both in 3 years on a full scholarship.

Finance - he does not use it for his job but it comes in very handy to have finance skills in regular life.

English with a concentration in creative writing (specifically, poetry). He was also pre-med. I guess he uses it now, he is director of administration and development for a drug research group at a medical school. He's also pursuing his masters of public health.

English lit. Not directly related to the field in which he works, but definitely transferable in terms of how it equipped him to be able to read carefully and analytically, and to be able to build solid, sound arguments.

He double majored in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and Math. He claims that he uses both daily, but he also claims a monkey could do his job. Maybe a well-educated monkey?

He majored in Classics - pretty old-fashioned, huh? He's forgotten most of his ancient Greek by now, but he's a novelist and I think his background in classical prose/literature has subtly influenced his writing style and the way he approaches language.
cantaloupe / 6687 posts
He double majored in biomedical engineering and electrical engineering

Computer science. He uses it for work. He is a computer programmer for the department of veterans affairs.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6703 posts
His degree is in business administration. He's managing about 12 guys right now, so yup.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
He double majored in Sociology and Political Science. He is now a Financial Consultant and has always been in the Finance field! I don't know why he didn't do Econ, Accounting, or Math because he's so good with numbers.

Software Engineering. Which he is very snooty about. It is NOT the same as computer science... At. All. according to him. I am constantly telling him to put his ego back in his pants.
He did get a job in his degree field so atleast there is that.

@Mrs Hedgehog: LOL thats funny.... I majored in Computer Science and don't know why they would be separate majors!
pear / 1812 posts
@sunny: Oh, if you ask him it is because Software Engineers are the architects, the creaters, the ones who design and then manage the teams of Computer Scientists... I swear this is the one thing he is super, uhm, cocky about. I make fun of his arrogance all the time! I swear he isn't an arrogant guy unless it comes to his degree.
FWIW, I have heard that while they are in the same field, they have enough differences to classify them in different subcatagories... but as I am so not interested in the subject (sorry, it bores me to tear as much as my law books bore everybody else.) I don't sit around long enough to find out how. I will say I don't see the difference though!

@Mrs Hedgehog: Ok I think maybe he means that SEs manage *programmers* who are like the people who execute on the design. Anyone can be a programmer though... not just CS majors! And plenty of CS majors design systems too
