we've done overnights at the local casino/hotel with my mama watching DS (mostly he's been asleep the enitre time we're gone).
we also do date night in. netflix, carry out, etc. & a night out in the hot tub after working out together (babe is asleep).
we also do grocery runs, movie nights, golf. this is all mainly due to the fact that we have my mom watching ds and we are so very grateful for the oppty.

Even when things are crazy busy, we try to walk the dog together most days. Getting some fresh air & exercise always helps me!

When someone is watching DS, we like to window shop It's something we always loved doing together before we had DS and still love doing it!

We typically watch a show together....we'll save the episode until we can both watch it together -Suits, Homeland, Glee, etc. We're pretty lame....I'll definitely be following this thread for more ideas!
We want to take up golfing so we will have a hobby that we can do together in our later years that will also keep us active!

Take walks with the dogs I am boarding, go out to the movies (my fave) watch movies and tv at home, go out to eat once in a while. If we get together with some friends we'll play board games, cook out, meet for brunch or dinner.
pomegranate / 3521 posts
@babyjmama: We play board games, a lot of dominos outside because it doesn't take too much thinking so we are able to play yet focus on one another and chat.
We play hockey together - if you guys are at all athletic I would think about joining some sort of organized sport (even for beginners) DH is a pro hockey player (not actually but he is really really good) and I started playing as an adult. We find a pick up shinny once a week where we are able to play together on the same team (although we both play separately in our own respective leagues). We our able to talk about plays, strategy, frustrations and hilarious moments. It doesn't have to be hockey though - you can do ultimate frisbee, soccer or something else that suits both of you
DIY projects - We do a lot of the projects around the house together... although sometimes tense it brings us closer together and we LOVE having the finish product. In recent weeks we have fixed and painted the shed, re stained the deck and renovated our washroom.
Also : camping, movies (not much talking), dinners out, and walking the dog together
Find something that interests you both or at least one of you. The other just needs to be willing to give the activity a shot because it makes their partner happy.

We play softball on a co-ed team together and sometimes we play catch at home. We bike together. We love to play bingo. We constantly try new ice cream places.
And then there's all the stuff we do as a family with J like the zoo, park, splash pad, pool, ect.

We like to watch tv or movies together, and we LOVE to go on bike rides and hikes together. Lots of times we go on long drives, just get in the car and go without any real destination in mind. We've found some really neat towns that way!
grapefruit / 4671 posts
We watch a lot of movies, and we cook together a lot too.
Right now we are working our way through Jamie Oliver's: Cook with Jamie. We make a new and interesting recipe together twice a week and have date night in.

We hang out on the couch and watch tv, go for bike rides (well, we used to...and it wasn't something i wanted to do PP or during the height of summer), and walks. Last night we took the baby for a walk around the lake and it was really nice! We also play in a weekly softball league. We hire a sitter.
pomegranate / 3521 posts
@Mrsjets: Oooo we wanted to join a coed softball league this summer but were just too late and too busy. I definitely want to do it next summer. Have you always played together?

Lately we've been renting movies and watching them together after DS goes to bed. In the past we've played a board game together and we usually have a drink while we play. We don't really get a babysitter too often so we usually just hang out together in the evenings after DS goes down for the night.
pomegranate / 3759 posts
One of the best things we did was let DH's mom look after LO for two nights. It gave us some time to basically miss LO and get sick of each other! We usually just hang out or go for a nice supper and a movie.

We've been inching our way out of a rut lately. Most of our time revolves around our son, but we do activities with him that let me and my husband connect. We take "family walks" (or hikes) with the dog, cook together, make time to help/participate in the others' hobbies (he helped my craft some cushions for a project, I helped him bottle some beer). We also always do lazy grocery shopping together on Sundays, where we stroll around the store slowly and chat.
After F is in bed we eat dinner and then watch TV together & make it a point to not be distracted by phones/ipad, etc. And (nerd alert) we both listen to NPR during the day so we can talk about interesting stories we both heard.
Finally, date night at least once a month. We're lucky enough to have a cousin who will sit for free, so we get a few hours all alone every few weeks.

@Reese: DH and I started the team together 8 years ago! It's changed so much over the years but its still so much fun! We don't run/arrange it anymore but it's nicer this way I'm pregnant again so I stopped playing about a month ago but I still go to the games and keep score. It's nice to cheer each other on and socialize too.
From what I see, teams are often looking for women to play so maybe make a post on Facebook or twitter to see if any friends have teams looking for players...you and DH would be a set obviously

Play board games, go running, go out and try new ice cream places, cook dinner together, marathon-watch shows on Netflix, and our newest thing is to work on a craft together.
pomegranate / 3521 posts
@Mrsjets: Thats awesome! Yeah, I know coed teams are always desperate for women to play (so you don't have to forfeit) right now we have 4 nights of hockey a week (between the both of us) so we decided picking up softball was too crazy this summer. We also planned on joining with another couple friend of ours but they broke up :(. We are going to cut down to two nights a week and reevaluate for next summer. That is great that you still go and make it your night together!

@mrsjyw: hmmmm...in the past he showed interest in golf (we are both terrible) but may e we could learn together ...!
@jhd: I think regular walks are a MUST for us!
@2PeasinaPod: I wish! I love to window shop...he hates all things shopping
@petunia354: we used to do that but I missed out on most of our shows this spring...maybe we need to go back and catch up together!
@TheSwissWifeStyle: we always pick lemons when we go to the movies...but it makes for a funny story!
@Reese: I think we need to start trying new things...I'm super unathletic but I need to get out of my comfort zone!
@Mrsjets: Mmmm! Ice cream!
@MediaNaranja: I loooove car rides! (Im like a puppy...haha!)
@plantains: I love the idea of trying new recipes together! That's a MUST...we get in food ruts haha.
@mewtill: I actually suggested to him that we read the same books and talk about them! Nerd alert
pomelo / 5509 posts
@babyjmama: Here's a super nerd alert and I'm a little embarrassed admitting it but...we pick a book and take turns reading it out loud in bed at night. We are finishing up The Hobbit right now.
grapefruit / 4136 posts
@IRunForFun: omg...that's amazeballs. I think getting him to do that would be impossible.

Most of what we do has already been noted: hike/dog walk, movie or show after LO is in bed, etc.
We listen to music together, usually on youtube, nowadays.
And we like to go shooting together. I was in the military and he hunts, so it is something we have in common that reminds us we are more than just 'mama' and 'dada'.
We also have fun eating junk food together. Surprising each other with a box of cookies or a new ice cream flavor is our equivalent to bringing home champagne and flowers
Not the healthiest choice but we are both relatively fit (me not as much since baby), so it is not a problem, yet.

We go for walks as a family, we have a show on Netflix that we only watch together after LO goes to bed, we grocery list make/shop together.
We like to go to concerts, movies, dinner together when we get a free night. We are lucky that our parents both love to babysit so we are able to do a date once a month together, this is very important for our relationship to have some adult only time.
We've also talked when LO is older of joining a couples bowling league. Our parents both did it and it sounds like a great night activity to do together (we aren't good but we love it) and he's planning on teaching me how to golf next year.
pomelo / 5509 posts
@babyjmama: @Reese: Hahaha. It was a little awkward at first but now we have so much fun with it! SO even does voices (he'd kill me if he knew I was posting this.) Plus it's an extra incentive to go to bed at the same time.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
@IRunForFun: DH reads to me before bed most nights! We're reading The Hitchhiker's Guide right now! I especially loved it when I was pregnant--he'd get down low and talk to my belly!
We don't get much time without DS so we're pretty limited there, but we'll watch shows together (right now True Blood and the Newsoom, but also HIMYM, GoT, Community, The Wonder Years...or sometimes something light like Futurama. Or we'll have a beer or two and play Scrabble.
grapefruit / 4923 posts
we've done puzzles together--yes, it's geek-o-rama around here. watching a show/movie on amazon has also gained some traction in our household.
pear / 1571 posts
We are lame, but Farmer Man works tremendously long hours and we're tired, so basically, we sleep together and that's about it. We have no one to watch the kids, so we very rarely go on dates. However, to spend a little one-on-one time, we go out and look over and maintain the garden together, sometimes with the kids, sometimes after they're in bed. Also, I'll go out and just sit on a bale and we'll talk while DH milks the cow. He likes that. If I can get away and leave the kids somewhere, I'll go ride on the semi or combine with him during harvest, but that's extremely rare. I miss doing *real* things together, but such us life right now.

Hmm, we do a lot and many things people have said - walks, movies, concerts, watch fav shows, dinners, etc. We're also pretty good about doing things the other likes to do. For example, I'll go to a baseball game with him and he'll go to a Broadway show with me. We're also kind of nerds and love to take tours of historical sites and go to museums. One really fun thing we do is go on a ghost tour in every city we visit. Hope you find some good ideas for the 2 of you!

We like to drive to the beach or other destinations about 30-40 min away. We like to have conversations during the drive. Sometimes we work in the garden together, or even run errands. We try to have dinner a couple times a week together. Taking our dog out together is another favorite. Sometimes we have silly dance parties in the living room...
Some "bigger" things we do are baseball games, concerts, camping trips, and trips to museums.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
We love to bowl so we go bowling on a night that has super cheap deals, like $10 all you can bowl. Hubby is also a tennis fanatic so we do that occasionally.
We also enjoy taking an evening stroll together. We walk to the multi-million dollar homes/neighborhood and marvel/judge at the construction, yard décor, and if the house is for sale, we'll pull the info sheet and read up on it. Ha!
Hubby enjoys shopping while I don't, so we do that together.

my favorite thing to do is take the dogs on a really fun hike. we like this one state park that's about a 45 minute drive away from NYC--we rent a zip car and go out there, hike around, and then pick up lunch from a nearby gourmet cafe place.
it get expensive, but we eat out a lot--dh is a huuge foodie so he's always finding places he wants to go to.
and we just bum around home together, watching tv or movies. we like to play board games but most of the ones we like require more people.
grapefruit / 4731 posts
Hm... wow I feel like I'm super boring... we normally just watch TV with each other or chit chat.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
We read the same book , at the same time, and discuss it. We also do a gift at Christmas of three books we think the other person would like, something that we might have read, etc. Lots of options here, especially childrens books, so it doesn't have to be too heavy. I tried the read outloud thing, but my husband is embarrased to read outloud in English (it's his 4th language) and my German is literally at at 2 year old's level!
pomegranate / 3383 posts
@IRunForFun: we did this with the last 2 Harry Potter books!!
We pick a series to watch on Netflix and watch several episodes in one sitting. We watch a lot of movies, go for walks, take LO to the park, and ride our bikes.
I do Crossfit and DH wants to get back into it so we've been once together but we aren't sure how we can schedule to go together again (we don't have childcare in the evenings/weekends). We also enjoy golfing but again, we aren't sure how to schedule that without childcare.
Oh, some other things we do after LO is asleep is we play chess or we play 21 (basketball) in our back alley.
bananas / 9227 posts
We also pick a series and watch a few episodes in one sitting, usually while eating. We garden and I especially like going to the garden center. We take walks around the neighborhood and feed the ducks and sheep. He's into bird watching, so we visit nature preserves and I take pictures of wildlife/plants/scenery and now DD while we're there. One thing we've been doing this summer is driving to a nearby towns (~1 hr away) and explore.
