I call my dad dad and my ILs by their first names when addressing them. I use our grandparent names for them when talking to my LOs about them or when the grandparents are present. They all call me by my first name when addressing me and their version of mommy when the LOs are involved. None of these are hard and fast though. Emphasis on names and forms of address aren't a huge deal for our families.

My parents are Mom and Dad or Grandma/Grandpa. I use both. They call us by our first names. I've grown okay with LO calling us by name occasionally. I've come to realize that it's important she knows our names in an emergency. We go over it occasional as well (if you are lost and someone asks you who I am, what do you tell them? Who do you go to for help?).

If we are talking TO LO, we use titles (bring this to mommy, should we call grandma? Where's daddy?). If talking in front of her but not to her, I call them mom/dad and they would call Dh and me by our names (what time is your mom getting here, when will John be home?)

LO knows our first names and occasionally refers to Dh by his first name, which makes us laugh. But she knows it's daddy first.

If I am talking to my son, then I refer to them as Grandma/Grandpa/Oma. But if I am talking to my husband in front of my son, then I say my mom/my dad/your mom. And if I am talking to them directly in front of my son, then I say Mom/Dad/[MIL's first name].

He gets it just fine. And he has two names for my parents because Grandma and Grandpa were too hard for him to say when he was first learning to talk. He switches back and forth between them with zero confusion.

He sometimes calls me Mommy and sometimes Mama. And I call him by his real name, a shortened version of his name, and various other nicknames. He figures it all out.

I've gotten used to calling my in laws by their grandparent names thanks to our nephews. Our LO is the first grandchild in my family so I am starting to call my parents grandma/grandpa. I think all of our parents started calling us mom/dad in front of LO.

@daniellemybelle: My DH has an older half sister, since she always called her stepdad by his first name DH does the same. It's always Mom and First name. I thought it was so odd that he never refers to him as dad. We grew up calling my step mom by her first name but she is mom to our little brothers.
