My mom makes oyster stew (which I hate) and another soup for us "plain janes" then the rest of us bring appetizers and dips and desserts.

My family used to do the traditional Italian feast. We're hosting this year and I'm making a ham with sides - broccoli sautéed with garlic and oil, glazed carrots and maple roasted sweet potatoes.

I always make chicken pot pie on Xmas Eve. It'll just be me, DH & LO, though.

@HappyBaker: We are doing a bunch of different appetizers this year on Xmas eve and the big meal on Xmas for lunch.

@HappyBaker: we have appetizers! Some old standby recipes and always a new one or two. Many years we make fondue too.

We usually make something in the crockpot before we go out and look at some Christmas light displays. No regular yearly menu though.

My family always does spaghetti with homemade sauce--easy and fast, but delicious. We will do the same this year. We thought about changing the tradition for our family, but I couldn't figure out something else I could mostly prepare ahead of time (sauce) that I could finish quickly when we return from church. So spaghetti it is!

I'm starting new traditions too We normally go out to eat for Italian food since it is our dating anniversary and we still celebrate it since it was very special for us. I am also making this Christmas soup this year http://altonbrown.com/christmas-soup-recipe/

Usually we have prime rib, but my SIL is making a turkey dinner this year. I'm not sure what's on the Christmas Day menu!

We get together with my immediate family on Christmas Eve, and we have a big holiday dinner. This year, my brother is making a pork tenderloin, and we're all bringing side dishes. I'm making a potato casserole, mac and cheese, and red velvet cookie bars.

We usually host and do a different multi-course dinner each year. This year my MIL is hosting and making a traditional ham dinner, and we're doing Christmas dinner instead.

We do Christmas Eve with my Moms family. We do a ham and everyone brings sides. Tonight (the 23rd) M and I got a 2 1/2 lb crab and are doing a feed with a salad, which will be our new tradition.

We go to my aunt's house for Christmas Eve dinner and it's usually a ton of appetizers, meatballs, sausages, grilled meat/veggie skewers, and a variety of desserts. Buffet style, help yourself.

Tamales! Very traditional here in the southwest although ours are bought not homemade because I don't have the energy!

@MamaCate: I'm making tamales tomorrow for our Christmas dinner! My husband's mom is Mexican and always has them for Christmas dinner so I figured I would make them for everyone this year

We usually alternate between a Swedish smörgåsbord and Italian seven fishes feast. The two sides of my family. This year my mom decided to break tradition and make lasagna.

I think we're having ham, probably with potatoes and veggies and dinner rolls. We usually go heavy on the appetizers too, cheese and crackers, chips and dip, shrimp cocktail, deviled eggs, etc. I'm making a chocolate cake with peppermint frosting.

While I was in my twenties my mom would make crab legs and I would make the lasagna.

@MamaCate: @yoursilverlining: Us too! Christmas eve tamales is one of our traditions. I made them from scratch about 6 years ago, I'm finally recovered from it enough to consider trying it again next year it was soooo much work to do alone!

Love all of these ideas, thanks everyone!
I've made the executive decision that we are ordering pizza tonight and will figure out our "tradition" dinner next year. I'm 2 weeks away from my due date and just don't feel like cooking tonight!

We do waffles and milkshakes - my DSS and DS came up with the idea a few years ago - I love it!
