I'm not a fan of it. How about Shayla? I like that name better and the two are very similar.

I would not know to pronounce it like you have it. To me, it reads like someone saying seller in a Boston accent (sell-ah).

@Adira: I hadn't thought of that! I'm not such a big fan of Sara though and I feel like it's quite similar.
DH and I might have to keep looking!

@Mrs. Monkey: A couple days after this thread I met my first Selah! And actually when meeting her IRL the name struck me as really pretty, even though when I first saw this thread I was on the fence.

I was also going to suggest Sara if you want it to work inJapanese (and I also think it works with Alice). . Other couples I know with one Japanese speaking parent have used Lea, Maya/Maia, Hana/Hanna/Hannah, Sofia/Sophia.

There is/was a Christian band named Selah so I knew how to pronounce it. I think it is really pretty but you'd definitely spend lots of time telling people how to pronounce it. However that can happen with any name. We thought DS name was pretty straight forward but I have to tell everyone how to say it twice since it is too similar to another very common boys name.
