Specifically social media related.
Maybe this is because of *who* I know that did this but it kind of seems thoughtless toward those who struggle w/ this holiday and I also kind of think it's like "yeah there are a lot of moms out there (no mention of my own mom) but this year I'm the most special of all!!"
Again, maybe I'm biased because of who did it, but it's a nay for me. (Of course I'd never SAY that but I did roll my eyes a little..)

Well, we announced on Mother's Day four years ago, but only to DHs family. We went up to go to mass and lunch with his parents and siblings. I was just 12 weeks I think. His parents knew but it seemed like the most appropriate time. His sister was also pregnant but had already announced. I can't speak to the social media piece though as we didn't do that.

We told our families today. If I were further along we would have considered doing it more widely on Mother's Day. Sometimes I think we've all become a little over sensitive about these things. You can't constantly censure your own excitement and joy because someone else might be jealous or dealing with a hard time.

@Truth Bombs: true, maybe we are. Like I said this may have more to do with who said it and the way she acted toward other at least my newborn way back when she wasn't a mom. So I guess I thought it was hypocritical? Idk!

I wouldn't have thought twice about. I actually think it would be really special to be able to announce that you're going to be a mom on Mother's Day.

If we were further along in sure we would have announced since mil has made it so clear that's pretty much all she wants in life.
Social media announcements just seem weird to me overall. I'm not sure if I'll "announce" or just let people figure it out (we'll tell everyone we're closest to, but dh has like 500 friends so I'm weird about privacy on FB)

Appropriate for family, but never for social media because most people tend to have friends who they don't know well anymore, and you never know who many be struggling.

I thought about it since it totally seems appropriate and I am 15 weeks but I also have a friend who I know is struggling and I'm sure others who I know but don't know their struggles so I decided against it. I don't think it's bad but after becoming more aware of personal friends and their IF struggles, I decided today wasn't the day.

I think its a great day. I struggle with this day, because one of my children isn't here (or ever will be), but I always love a baby/pregnancy announcement. People are allowed to have their own joy.

When you have IF I think all holidays can be a struggle (speaking from experience). I don't think people should hide their joy.

We plan to announce to DH's family this coming Saturday when we'll celebrate a belated Mother's day. I'm not a huge fan of social media announcements but I think it would be a common and appropriate day to announce.

Guess I'm in the minority. 
Sort of expected that at least on a parenting site. Must be the special snowflake in my life making me roll my eyes so much!

I've been through IF and (previously) while it might sting to see another announcement (regardless on what day it is). I certainly don't want people to hide it from me. I've always told friends to keep posting pictures of their LO because I still enjoy seeing them. Some days will be worse than others but eventually I'll have a good day and I'll ooohh and ahhh over them.
To be honest, I always avoided logging into social media on Mother's Day. (Now that I'm pregnant, I was able log in today.) So it wouldn't bother me because I wouldn't have seen it. Ha!
ETA: oh, if there is a friend that announces their pregnancy that is particularly sensitive to me, I'll hide them from my feed.

The only day that really annoys me when people announce is April fools day, especially while struggling to have my own LO. I'm pretty receptive to every other day/holiday.

I think it's appropriate to announce on Mothers Day. I agree with above poster that Aprils Fools is really annoying.

I actually think it's the perfect day since one could just stay away from social media for the day in anticipation. After my two losses, the hardest were announcements that I couldn't prepare for (but such is life.) Also, I don't know what that person has been through to be able to make an announcement. Most people don't know what my husband and I have been through so I try to not assume it's been easy for them just because I don't know otherwise.

@simplyfelicity: Sorry if my op was misleading- we are actually expecting #2 in October! I just know there are quite a few struggling with not having their moms or infertility or just life not being right for babies on fb this year. I started seeing IF posts for the first time on IF awareness week. We did have to try for awhile but not quite IF level of time. I guess I'm annoyed because I was asked to walk on eggshells with her but this is her 2nd in 2 years and she sure isn't caring about anyone who may still be aching for a lo. I thought about it and if it was my sister or another friend/cousin/etc I'd have reacted differently, which is a little petty, I know!

Doesn't bother me, although I can see how it's a little "I'm the most special mother" for some. But I also am 100% guilty of having different reactions to different people doing the same thing and would roll my eyes for one person and just smile for another.

I don't have FB so it's not an option for me, but I would love to announce on Mother's Day. Seems like a great day to announce to family good news. Although, I'll take any day now haha.

I think it's fine? I think it's a little strange to be offended about someone announcing their pregnancy, unless they're doing it at your baby shower or a funeral or somewhere really inappropriate.... like when people get engaged at weddings.
Mother's Day seems pretty appropriate to me, personally.

I am totally fine with it and think its cute. I mean, if we were to always make sure to only think of those struggling, we would never announce because it hurts knowing somebody else has what you so desperately want. They are happy and excited, as they should be. I sympathize with women who are struggling, I really do. And I always take the time to mention them when I am wishing everyone else a Happy Mothers Day. But I don't see a problem with announcing a new pregnancy on Mothers Day. I mean, should we not post pictures of our already born children for the same reason?

I think it's perfectly fine. This is a good day to avoid social media if you know it might trigger something negative. I lost my mom a few years ago so I know what it's like to see all the happy posts on Mother's Day and get upset. But I can't ask people not to celebrate simply because it hurts me.

I think lucky them. 
That said, I had a few surprise announcements today that I wasn't expecting, and that really hurt. But it's not about me.
