What do you think of the name Cotton?

    I had a student named Cotton. I certainly wouldn't choose it but he was cute and I got used to it.

    I think of a Southern insurance company called Cotton States. Not a bad name, but doesn't imediately strike me as a first name.

    I'm not digging it at all, and that's saying something since both of my kids have last names as first names and I generally like unique names!

    I could get on board with this, but I think it's because I know an elderly lady named Cotton and she is SPUNKY. It's not a name I would probably choose but I can appreciate it.

    As a teacher, it's spellable, pronounceable and phonetic, so I'm good with it!

    It is a real name, albeit a very old one! I also think of cotton mather or cotton weary - neither of which are necessarily positive associations. I don't hate it, though.
