My husband desperately wants to name our son (when/ if we have one) Kal-El. Surprisingly I am actually okay with it but kind of want to spell it differently? People have some strong opinions on names I know so I was wondering what you all thought of it? Too out there? Cheesey?

Oh man, I'm sorry but I immediately think about Nic Cage (he named his son this, after Superman's birth name). In theory I think it's an interesting name, but I know he's landed on a ton of "craziest baby names" lists because of it.

Exactly how it is spelled, Kal like hal then El like you say the letter L. I would perhaps remove the hyphen because I hate hyphenated names lol... I would provably convince him to spell it Kalel if not it would probably be KalEl.

Nicholas Cage named his first son Kal-El . . . (Pronounced Cal like in Cal-ifornia, and L like the letter L). Honestly, I wouldn't do it to my child.

I had no idea that Nicholas Cage named his son this! I just immediately thought of Superman... which I just couldn't name my kid after a superhero. =/

Oh I had no idea about the Superman reference. Hmm, Personally it's not a name for me. But if you and your DH love it go with it!
I just don't think it rolls off the tongue right though personally.

I don't mind it, but I didn't catch the Superman reference. But the spelling would be hard-- as someone with an easily misspelled name, one of my big criteria for names is having an obvious spelling that people won't always be asking how it's spelled.

hmm well i think i personally wouldn't name my son after superman, but i think without the hyphen 'kalel' is vastly better! it's a lovely sounding name for sure, though!
i personally didn't know this was superman's name before he became clark, so i wouldn't have blinked an eye if others hadn't mentioned it!

I think you might be better off naming him Clark.
But of course, name him whatever you and your husband love!

Not my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean if the two of you like it you shouldn't use it. He could go by Kal if he wanted.

It's not my favorite, but it might be cute if his name is Kal-El and he goes by Kal. Or middle name Kal-El? It just doesn't flow well to me to be a good first name. Have a girl named Kallie Eleanor HAHA

I keep going over the pronunciation listed above and it sounds so similar to me as Kale/Cale, but with a longer "L" sound on the end (am I totally butchering this name?!)....why not just go with Kale/Cale instead? Which I think is a beautiful boys name!

I haven't seen Superman, so I didn't know of the reference. I think it would cause a lot of annoying explanation throughout life.

Honestly, I think that name would be a big invite for teasing. I also just don't like the way it sounds.
