My mom wanted to be grandma & my dad said he was fine with any name except nono (we called his late father nono). My mom didn't want to be a nana, because that's what we call my dads mom!
Chloe has decided that my mom is also a nana, and she calls my dad by his first name. Uh oh! We're trying to break that habit & are teaching her to say pap instead.
What does your LO call their grandparents? Did they pick a name on their own?

R is way too young to call her grandparents anything. My mom wanted to be Nana but DH's mom claimed Nanie (yes, she spells it that way and it drives me crazy) first so my mom was upset. She doesn't want to be too close in name.

My mom is known as nana to all of her other grand kids, so I'm sure lo will call her that. My dad will be grandad. Dh's parents will be grandma & grandad.

@swedishfish: it's cute now but I don't want a 16yo to be calling him by his first name LOL
And since we have the first grandchild, I think she wil be setting the rules on what to call grandparents! I also don't want my siblings future kids calling my dad by his first name.

My mom wanted to be called Apong (Illocano), a language she never spoke to me as a kid, and one that doesn't come natural for her to use. It was the first time I've even heard of that word.
She ended up being mormor (Swedish for mother's mother), but LO hasn't learned to say it yet. My grandma (LO's great-gmom) is Lola, it's the same name I call her and it's currently one of LO's fave word atm.

No lo here yet, but to my neice my mom is Granny Jo. I'm not a fan! When the time comes for us, I'm thinking just Gran and Pop. And then dh's folks will be Lola/Lolo. My neice also calls my grandmother (who I call Mom-Mom) Gigi, for great grandmother. I think that's cute!

My parents are grandma/grandpa (precedent set from my older siblings kids, or I think my mom would have chosen "grandmommy") and my in-laws are Awwa (grandma in Telengu, the language my MILs mom spoke) and Thatha (grandpa in Tamil, the language DHs whole family speaks). I love it except my folks can't pronounce awww/thatha correctly so when they try to ask LO about them he has no idea what they're talking about

@beaker: I don't know anyone outside my mom & dads whole family that can pronounce nono!
Everyone thinks it's no-no, but it isn't. I can't even think of a way to phonetically say it!
It doesn't help that we spell it incorrectly (it should be nonno) and say it incorrectly as well. We're bad Italians!

My mom wants to be Granny because she was very close to her grandmother & that was her name. My dad will be Grandpa. ILs are Mawmaw & Pawpaw.

Well LO isn't here yet and he will be the first grandchild on each side. My grandmother is still alive, so she will be Nanny to him as well. My mom wants to be Nana and I don't think my dad has said. Maybe Poppy because that's what his dad was?
MIL wants to be called Nonnie and FIL wants to be PapPap (like his father was called).

Ds calls my parents Gramma and Papa...and calls his dad's dad Papa. My MIL (who isn't his g-ma by blood, but she considers him her grandson), has been trying to convince him to call her Gramma for years, but it never sticks...he just calls her and my FIL by their first names. It's weird to him, lol.
But, LO is going to be required by my MIL to call her gramma, lol.

Well the other McK grandsons call ILs Nana and Pops, so that's what we'll teach him. My mom is currently Grandma K (Katie) but I told her we'll try to teach him another name for get if she wants, she's just undecided on what (her other grand kids, who E doesn't know, call her Grandma Katie). And my father and stepmother will be Grandpa Jon and Grandma Connie, although I don't foresee him having much, if any, interaction with them.

LO calls MIL grandma; said it for the first time yesterday! She calls FIL pah pah. Think Italian accent PA PA.
She will call my mom "yeen ma" which is maternal grandmother in my dialect.

Mt parents became Gram (as planned) and GrampsB after a joke that didn't go away. My inlaws go by Grammie and Grampie but I always mess those up and spell them with y's.... Ooops.

DH's parents are Grandma and Grandpa. My dad and stepmum are Nana and Papa. My mum is Neni (pronounced neigh-knee), which is taken from Hungarian (my mum's first language), but isn't the actual word for grandmother.

My parents are CeCe and Big Daddy. My grandparents are Grandma-Grandma (the same thing I nicknamed my great grandma when I was little) and Papa (what I call my grandpa).
MIL changes her mind like every day what she wants to be called. FIL is Papaw.

MIL and FIL are grandma and grandpa. My mom is Grammy and her husband (remarried 3 years ago) is uncle bill. Was not doing a real grandparent name there. My dad who passed away when I was 19 will be referred to as granddad.

My mom is Gramma and my dad is Grampa. My grandfather is Grandpa Ron.
My inlaws are Nana and Grampa Dave (MILs husband), and Grampa (DH's dad) and Lisa... DH's grandparents are Grandma Ede and Grampa Jack.
It's so confusing for my LOs...
However when DS talks about Gramma and Grampa, he is referring to my parents. He loves my mom SO much. He asks multiple times a day to see Gramma and Grampa and go to their house or to the beach with them. He talks to my mom on the phone a lot.

My parents are Nan and Papa... I think Nan will turn into Nanny, which is what we called my mom's mom. She passed away in January and my mom found it too soon to be "Nanny" but I think she will come around.
DH's parents are Vavu (grandfather) and Vavo (grandmother). His dad is Portuguese.

my parents chose their names! my mama is Grams, and my dad chose Poppy. I was annoyed when he chose and started calling himself poppy without asking me... it was actually one of my favourite girls names!!
DHs parents are grandma [name] and grandpa. I'm not sure who chose their names, their oldest grandchild is only a few years younger than I am, so I obvs wasn't around then!
