I've seen several items recommended as something you should buy used/consigned in case your LO hates it or for other reasons. The one I see most often is probably the Bumbo.

Bumbo for sure. Its easy to wipe down with bleach to get it clean.
We also bought a jumper but that was harder to wipe all the little parts clean.
We bought a used swing because the cover was washable and the baby doesn't touch any of the other parts.

A jumperoo--we got one for $25, retail is like $115. Any plastic toys that can be wiped clean. Other than that, we haven't bought anything used.

We didn't buy anything used, but I'd be open to anything that could be washed and hosed down, other than car seats.

i buy as much as i can used. esp big things with short lives -- swings, exersaucers, jumperoos, music tables.
but i've also purchased strollers, the bjorn bouncer, clothes and tons of used toys. i'd pretty much buy almost anything used except for things like bottles, car seats, cribs and mattresses!

Used bumbo for sure. We also had a lot of hand-me-downs from my sister, techincally used but because I knew where they came from I wasn't as freaked out (jumper, clothes, stroller.)

I bought almost everything used. My crib and car seats were used. The bottles she is using now were new but other ones were used.

we got a bumbo used. we also get an exersaucer and rock and play used. These all have removable parts that were easy to clean

All of our furniture was bought used as was our jumperoo, train table and tons of clothes. Other big stuff we were gifted (stroller, exersaucer etc) new but I would have shopped used if I had to buy them. Almost everything can be cleaned down. DH and I spent three hours cleaning and building LO's train table with lysol wipes. We may or may not have consumed a bottle(s!) of wine and played trains into the wee hours.

I think I'd be open to buying anything used if we knew where it was coming from. Ie, a neighbor or coworker.

Oh goodness, anything but car seat (only because car seats expire, and we're going to have a lot of kids, so might as well get a new one that will hopefully last for all kids)
Used stuff we bought: Crib, mattress, high chair, exersaucer (the kind with wheels), boppy, swing, books
If they weren't gifted to us, we would have bought stroller, baby carrier, bouncer

I should totally look for a train table, we need one and I don't want to pay insane prices for it!
@TheSwissWifeStyle: I noticed that when I was living in Swissland, the stuff people were selling was almost the same price as buying new...the resale market is not the same as it is in the US, which bummed me out big time when we had to buy stuff, but was awesome when we sold stuff.

I wish I got our bumbo used. LO's legs were too chunky for it so she didn't use it at all. We lent it to a friend so at least it's getting some use.

Gosh, what didn't we buy used When I buy used I take it home and spend hours depending on the size taking it apart and cleaning thoroughly. We've bought the jumperoo, swing, music table, portable swing, and more that I can't remember used. We always buy new carseats and big strollers ( I did buy our small stroller used).

I wouldn't buy a crib or crib mattress used but pretty much everything else is fair game. I've bought clothes, a swing, A+A blankets, an activity gym, a rocking Army jeep, a PUJ tub, a medium sized stroller, and a train/activity table used.

Personally, I'd only buy used baby items that weren't classified as "gear". No carseats, cribs, mattresses, high chairs (unless I had done extensive research to ensure there had been no recalls), etc. Things like clothing, blankets, wooden toys, cloth diapers, I would all buy used within reason.

@looch: yeah I will have to keep an eye out for an actual deal...!
