I just arranged a sitting share for our daycares spring break instead of hiring a sitter! Will "cost" 2 vacation days but will save $800!

We went from spending nearly 200 dollars a week on groceries to a little over 100 using cooksmarts. Score!

We are getting a competing quote for our homeowner's insurance and today we are taking steps to go down to one car and eliminate the need for gasoline.

I set up a good budget account to work on really tracking every dollar and hopefully save me time from our excel budgeting.

I got paid! All the extra work I did last fortnight was worth it.
And I need to start looking around for car insurance quotes, ours has gone up.

I packed lunch for work yesterday.
And I still have yet to Target this week.

I worked from home today so didn't buy any food or coffee out. And resisted placing a Gap order, haha

I started couponing on Monday and sorted them by dates so I can use them before they expire. I have it in a clear ziplock bag and will carry it at all times. I always let them expire because I never bring them with me when I need the coupons. I also resisted the temptation to eat out on 3 different nights.

I had a serious discussion with my husband about returning to work three and a half months early, which would mean a bunch more money. I also switched our gas/fuel budget from $250 to $150 monthly, because DH can walk to work now that it's nice out!

Some teacher bees will know what I'm talking about.... I updated my storefront on teacherspayteachers to look prettier and consistent. See? https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Reading-With-Mrs-D

I made breakfast biscuits for DH and I again today and carried 2 cups of coffee with me so I would avoid stopping somewhere on the way to work (which was a score because DS was being slow and I was 20 minutes late anyway!)
I did buy myself lunch today, but it was planned. However, I also went to some work event and got 2 cartons of chocolate milk, 3 packs of apple slices, 3 clementines, and a bunch of flowers for free (it was like an ag fair). I figure they'll be good snacks for DS and I.
I planned all my meals and did my grocery shopping on Monday, so I'm good to go the rest of the week. Work was slow today so I also printed out a bunch of coupons and scanned The Krazy Coupon Lady and Totally Target to note deals on things I need to stock up on.

I found my wallet that I thought I lost yesterday! I had $250 cash in it so although not saving money, at least I did not lose it!
DH got a big unexpected bonus and news that a raise is coming his way. I had nothing to do with it but yay!!! So happy and excited for him/us.

@looch: we did the one car switch about a year ago and our has been challenging as we both work, but financially it has helped so much.

Closed on our old home and made a nice profit that is going into savings. And resisted buying new kitchen appliances, which took much self control .

@MaisyMay: This is actually the second time we've done it, so I know we can! Since we currently work across the street from each other, it's a slam dunk.

@looch: nice. Dh works near our house but dies the daycare runs. I commute about an hour away between bus and train, but he typically picks me up from the train station after work. When I need the car on days he works, he either brings it home or I walk to his job.

Late to the party but I got my old job back after 1.5 years. We moved and we're keeping our oldest at his current school since he's in 8th grade and school is almost over. That created an extra $250 per month cost for us because I'm now driving 160 miles a day just to take him to school and go back home. My old job is in the same city, and will pay for my gas plus a tiny bit more (daycare and only working 3 days a week eats it all up!). Now we need to cut cable, shop our cell plan, and sell more stuff on ebay!

Last night I pre-made 3 packets of chicken tenders into schnitzels (they were on special whooohoo), froze them in the chest freezer. I also sold a whole stack of clothes/shoes/baby stuff on ebay in the last week. Someone paid $43 for a pair of my old nike sneakers that I don't like anymore.

I asked my mom if she had any stuff she wasn't using any longer....lightweight pitcher, serving platter, instead of buying new.

Well, our new housecleaner starts today so we've got $$ going out for that, but DH and I just had our 5th anniversary on Saturday and did not do anything crazy. He got me grocery store flowers with a card, we went to dinner at a nice restaurant but split an appetizer and an entree instead of ordering two of each and rolling ourselves out of there (-!; we still had leftovers!). I owe him an ice cream pie as my gift and we paid a sitter for 2 hours while we went to eat. Considering in the past we went away to Napa and spent a fortune, I thought we were really good!
I also stuck to our meal plan last week, was able to host last minute dinner guests out of the freezer last night, baked some scones for car breakfasts this week, and have a menu plan and grocery list ready for today!

@looch: Other than cutting down on eating out, nothing. But at least since we've cut down on that, we could afford to pay to get our car fixed.

Our tax refund was almost exactly the remaining balance on my husband's student loans so I paid those off in full. We had been letting them ride but the stock market isn't doing well so our investments weren't outperforming the interest rate, and our income is high enough that we couldn't write off the interest anyway, so we decided it was time to pull the trigger.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@avivoca: that's still something!
@Truth Bombs: It's a great feeling when you pay those suckers off!
I kind of have done something, I found out I am eligible for a stipend from the state to offset the cost of the commute to my son's school next year.

I started bringing coffee to work instead of stopping at Starbucks. I also gave up Honest Company diapers - switched to ordering dipes/wipes from Amazon Subscribe & Save which amounts to about $35/month. We made a meal plan for the week that use some leftover ingredients from last week and things we have the in pantry, so our grocery bill was about $30 less too.
We plan to look into cheaper internet service too.

I was starving on my drive home (2hour drive) but instead of stopping for food and and iced coffee I made it until I was home! Ate meal prepped salad

I cancelled a phone we weren't using and solved a problem for $30 instead of $130.
Tomorrow DH gets to ring and change our health insurance which should hopefully save us some money.

Found out there was an Aldi nearby so trying to go there once every few weeks and stock up on things (it's a 20 minute drive so doesn't make sense to go weekly). The first time we went I was blown away by how much we saved! Went again on Saturday and for ~$80 we have all the non-perishable food we need for basically all of April and then fresh stuff for the next week or so.

I'm in hoarding mode before the baby gets here. We found a random Amex gift card a vendor gave us eons ago and we just forgot about it. So I did a big Target of paper products and what not for after the baby comes and spent just about exactly the balance on the card.
I put away two freezer meals and a container of homemade salsa for meals after the baby comes.
I bought big tubs of plain yogurt and stirred in some all fruit preserves for DH's yogurt bowls this week instead of the pricier yogurts. Less sugar too!
We found out we overpaid our quarterly taxes last year so it covered our April quarterly this year (which is usually huge), so we are going to put a good chunk towards DH's student loans.

I unsubscribe from from a bunch of emails, no impulse purchases because I can save up to 75% off and whatnot.
Oh and yesterday I got a bolt in a tire of our car, so that's going to have to go in the "ding to the budget" column.

This week:
We booked one of our upcoming vacation hotels with airline points, which saved us almost $700!
I didn't make a meal plan this week, but every day I have come up with a dinner plan and bought only the groceries for that meal, and I've had leftovers every day for lunch this week.
I need new jeans since my only pair got a rip in them this week. I tried on about 20 pairs the other day and didn't buy any, which actually isn't good since I need new ones, but I didn't spend money either.

I made a meal plan for the month and bought groceries in bulk. Hopefully this saves us a lot of money since we usually go to the grocery store any time we need something rather than using what's in our fridge! I've heard this saves money. We'll see at the end of the month I guess.
I also have not bought anything for quite a few days in a row now.
I've even said "NO" to people who want to go out and spend money for dinner or shopping. Which is huge for me because I'm a "YES" person! lol
Edit: AND I pulled L out of daycare so that will save us $1,100.00 for May.

Last night I lowered our wireless plan saving us about 99 a month. We apparently never used anywhere near the data plan we had so lowering it will just save us money.
