Gahh...trying not to think about this My sister bounced back amazingly after her two kids so hopefully this bodes well for me. As for my shoes, I will get them stretched if I have to--i'm NOT giving them up!

@hilsy85: I'm in denial too! I read all these posts and I'm still like, "I can do it if I try really hard!"
My husband is extremely fit and, not gonna lie, he's totally ripped and a total sexpot. This has always pushed me to stick to the gym, because I don't want to be his "fat wife." And I guess all these years of knowing how important staying in shape is to him, it's rubbed off on me - for both my own health reasons and also to stay attractive to him. So that definitely has added pressure during my pregnancy - I cannot let go of that fear of being the "fat wife" and getting stares when I walk around with my hot husband:) So that has kept me in the gym for this pregnancy, and I feel like it's going to really push me to take hardcore measures after Harper is born. I fear fat, I cannot help it!

@jholler25: this is the most depressing thread ever. I've been in denial about this and now there's no turning back! waaahhhh!

@oliviaoblivia: I know. Totally depressing. I kind of wish I hadn't started it and would have just continued in ignorant bliss:)

@jholler25: I'm with you, my husband runs obsessively and it shows. We both had chubby years as children but he's only really known me as a thin person and I refuse to be the one to backtrack and become the "fat wife". As it is, girls throw themselves at him in front of me so I sure don't need that!

I haven't read through carefully, but a common problem we've discussed on the boards before is that all of a sudden, all of your shirts are too short. Don't ask why, we have no idea!

I spent a lot of money pre-pregnancy building my wardrobe-I came from the school of "buy quality, timeless pieces and have things altered so they fit well". As my pregnancy progressed and I saw the scale creep higher and higher, I began to panic that I would never lose all the weight I'd gained. As I sit here, just shy of 4 months post partum, I have lost every pound, but still nothing fits. I used hip shrinkers, girdles, everything, in hopes that everything would go back to normal...and it hasn't yet.
My ribcage is bigger (my boobs on the other hand are not) my hips are wider, everything overall is just more broad...and I don't look fat or pudgy or anything like that, but I certainly can't squeaze into my old size 25's (or even a pair of 27's) and none of my dresses fit (they pull in the arms).
I am not going to stress myself out about not fitting into a certain size and I would advise any new mom to do the same. I put all of my designer dresses and jeans on ebay and bought myself some nice dresses and tunics that will be great even after this transitional phase (I'm a big fan of Lesley Evers, Gretchen Scott and Cape Madras for tunics and shift dresses-they fit nicely, are machine washable and are excellent quality).
I also went up a shoe size-I had to get fitted for a new pair of running shoes and I'm suddenly flat footed. But my little butterbean is so cute that I'm ok sacrificing all of my tory burch revas...flip flops are more comfortable any ways.

Those who say your shoe size went up...do you mean your feet are longer or wider?
squash / 13199 posts
Your body proportions change and my feet are both longer and wider. I've gone up half a shoe size

@spaniellove: just longer for me - I think my arch collapsed a bit with all the ligaments stretching, etc? Some of my bigger 7s fit but when I buy new these days it's a 7.5 (38)

Okay, so maybe my strange habit of buying all my closed-toe shoes a little too big will come in handy!

Oh. My. Gosh. This is one of the most depressing things I’ve ever read…. Oh my gosh.

why do I keep opening this thread? I'm mourning all of my beautiful clothes and shoes right now.

Ladies, ladies! Let's try and find a way to not be depressed about this. Our bodies are changing for GOOD REASON: we are growing a human being! If our clothes don't fit after the baby, guess what? We have an excuse to go out and buy a new fancy wardrobe for ourselves. The best thing we can do is make sure we have nice things that fit us. And we can cut out the freaking tags if we don't like the number we see there. Our husbands adore us and will only love us deeper as the mother of their children, even if our bodies are slightly different than before. As long as we do what we can to stay healthy, eat well, nourish ourselves and our families, and exercise, we'll have the respect and admiration we desire. Our husbands love us no matter what. Good looks don't last forever, but we can take good care of ourselves and try our best to keep healthy as mothers - and that is beautiful if you ask me.

@Stiffaknee: Which hip shrinkers and belly binders did you use? And when did you start using them?
apricot / 290 posts
@MsLipGloss: I used the "Hip Shrinxx" and the "Squeem" girdle. I started using both 2 days PP...I actually liked the girdle, it made me feel more secure in my midsection and helped some of my back pain. The hip binder was pretty uncomfortable and I was only able to wear it at night, which was tough because I had to get up every 2-3 hours to breastfeed or pump. I wore the girdle consistently (8-12 hours a day) for 6 weeks. I'm not 100% convinced it did much-I lost the weight because I eat right and exercise (I also exercised consistently during my pregnancy)

@Stiffaknee: Those are the 2 garments that I plan on using as well (I am 38 weeks today). I didn't plan on substituting the garments for a healthy diet/exercise plan, I guess I was just hoping that it would help a little with the coming back together part. Ah well, always good to expect a realistic outcome, and if anything more than that happens, I will just be happy that I got lucky. Thanks for sharing!

@highwire: Thank you for saying this! It's easy to go into a downward spiral thinking about our postpartum bodies. Having a baby is the most amazing thing! I didn't quite realize just how marvelous it is until after my LO is born. Knowing that I carried a child that is half me/half DH, and then brought her into the world erases any ill thoughts about my body now. No, it's not the same, but it has done a miraculous thing. Honestly, I feel much sexier and much more like a woman now. Nothing could make me feel as capable of anything as birth did. Choose to have a healthy perspective on things. When you really think about it, clothes are just clothes. If it's that important to you, start investing in accessories... they always fit!

Ok so I will give you a detailed description of what happened to me:
I am 5'7 and was in the low l40s before having a baby. I was in really good shape and worked out nearly ever day pre pregnancy, lifting weighs and doing the Insanity DVDs. I generally wore size 27 and small shirts. During pregnancy I gained 26 pounds.
Now, at three months post partum I am still in the low 140s but my body is completely different. I went from a 32 size bra to a 36 (and I even made it to 38 while pregnant). I can bottom my jeans but they are soooooo tight around my hips, they give me muffin top. My stomach is flat, but not hard. I do think that will change with time. My boobs are much saggier and about three cup sizes bigger if not more. I have a lot of stretch marks, but those are unfixable. I will probably never a wear a small again, but I am ok with being a medium. I am thinking with my old workout routine I can get to being "hard" again, but I don't think my hips or ribs will ever shrink back. Oddly enough, though, I am happy with my body. Even if I am never a 4 again, I am okay with that. I am a mom! Hopefully this provides insight for you!

For those of you whose ribcages/hips got bigger, did that happen during pregnancy or after birth? I've stayed the same band size thus far (at 31 weeks) and am wondering if I can expect it to grown after birth at all (would think not, although I do know my boobies will grow more!). I am also still able to get my pants up over my hips (although there's no chance in hell they're buttoning!) but can see my hips spreading during labor...

@winniebee: Ahhh! I am not even pregnant and this scares me! It sounds like we have similar body types...I have an (almost) 6-pack and a bubble butt. If I lose my butt I will be so sad!!
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@Smurfette: Everyone is different. My thunder thighs are no bigger than they were pre preg-- and I still have 10 pounds to go! Your body may change but not necessarily the way the other ladies' are.
@hilsy85: My hips grew 2 inches during pregnancy and has gone back down 1. My ribcage grew like 2-3 inches but I think it is going to go back to regular size.

@lawbee11: it's not that bad! Im working on it! I was 5-2 and 110 lbs pre preg.

@highwire: i love what you said! it's so easy to focus on the negative, but i think that once my little lady is here, my perspective will shift on the importance of it all. DH thinks i'm pretty damn sexy pregnant and that's a huge boost to me!
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@pastemoo: in my case it's not boobs! my boobs are back to their prepregnancy size, but it's like I all of a sudden grew 5 inches in my torso.
