I was sunbathing in Egypt and didn't notice how hot my belly was getting. I touched it when I reapplied sun cream and realised Id been boiling the baby! Eek! She's fine though!!

I sleep on my back all the time. *shrug*
I did feel stupid when I realized that I shouldn't have taken a piping hot bath last week when my back was killing me!

I was on vacation in the Caribbean and didn't put on strong enough sunscreen. I ended up burning the lower part of my legs and feet. Combine that with swelling from the heat and I was miserable. I was fine this summer being in the sun, but the stronger Caribbean sun really got me.

For lunch at work I thought getting a turkey sandwich from my favorite deli would be better than eating fast food, since packing my usual lunches from home didnt fill me up.
400 sandwiches later I found out about lunch meat and pregnancy! Oh well. They are pretty delicious.

@daniellemybelle: I can't help but sleep on my back! I don't feel comfortable any other way.

I don't always wash my pre-bagged salad which isn't the worst thing in the world, but I probably should be better about it!

I ate lunch meat that wasn't steaming (because really, that's disgusting), had wine on occasion, ate raw cookie dough, had some fabulous ahi poke in Hawaii that was fresh out of the ocean that day, ate fro-yo, drank coffee EVERY day, and I'm sure there's a million other rules I broke.
The only one I was careful with was the fish guidelines for mercury, because we eat a lot of fish at home.
Oh yeah, my kid is fine. I had like, the easiest, breeziest pregnancy and part of that is probably because I didn't stress out over worrying whether or not my favorite deli sandwich was going to poison me (because do I normally think my favorite deli is going to give me listeria? No, no I do not).
To each their own, for sure.

@erinpye: Agreed. I broke a lot of food rules, but those weren't mistakes, those were just me wanting cake batter and lunch meat!
As for an actual oops, I had a beer at Ren Fest a few days before I got my BFP. Oops!

Nothing really, but I'm pretty relaxed about the "rules" I follow- I think most are pretty ridiculous. I follow normal food safety rules (refrigeration, reputable sources) and everything in moderation, besides that if I want it, I eat or drink it.

@Pink Champagne: lol! I never even thought about frozen yogurt before now. It is my absolute favorite and I've had it twice in the last two weeks.
All these rules make pregnancy seem so stifling!

I guess I am lucky my midwife has no eating restrictions. She just said as long as I don't get my sushi and meat off the side of the road I am fine. To eat what y body craves basically. Although she did say to watch my carbs and fruit and I am not the best at that one! I am eating way to much fruit.

@anonysquire: too much fruit? I really thought the more the better. You must be eating a heck of a lot of fruit !

@Glitter: I guess with my PCOS I am at a high risk of GD. So the fewer fruits is better. I don't eat that much lol. Like maybe a serving or 2 a day.

i was already taking a specific type of vitamin and began taking prenatals, and didn't realize that with both of them, i was getting like 10000% of the RDA of vitamin A, which depending on the source of the vitamin A, can cause neural tube defects or something serious like that. i spent 2 nights furiously googling and stressing out, until my OB GYN told me to relax.

I don't drink enough water... I really do try but I don't get anywhere near enough I hope I can get better at this.

Oh my gosh please don't be angry at yourself! The risk of listeria is incredible small, and it is even smaller in a home environment! Would it help to know the majority of listeria cases can be traced back to produce processing plants?
And hats-off to those of you who can keep up with all the rules! I've stayed away from alcohol and oysters, but I'm still having sushi, taking hot baths, eating salami (from the farmers market!), pate, soft cheeses, having coffee, and sleeping on my back.
Fetuses are incredible resilient, and although I understand the "its so easy to give up for just a short period of time/just in case/its a small sacrifice" line of thinking, I just can't live my life like that....

@Abbydabbydoodlebug: Lol! Your doc sounds like mine, very down to Earth, and no scare tactics. There is a sketchy area near the hospital with prostitutes and drug users, where according to him the babies are as cute and as healthy as any. And he said, he could almost guarantee those women weren't taking their multi-vitamins, eating carefully, and not drinking. So his advice was to relax and keep up with what I'm doing, and enjoy this time. Good advice or what?

I drank a bottle of champagne, went in a hot tub and a steam room before my BFP. I was 4 days late but all tests came up negative, three days after I came home I got a faint BFP. And freaked out!

@AnneBird: yes!! It amazes me so many worry about deli meat and listeria but never produce!

I took a benedryl once about 1 week after finding out. I know benedryl is schedule B and a common OTC so if there were pregnancy or development complications from benedryl use it would probably be reported but with my history I'm still nervous about taking it, I just so want this baby to be healthy
