I totally made it to Oregon! Someone must have made a killing off that game, it seems like all the schools had it in the late 80s/early 90s

@Mrs. Superhero: congrats!!
What was your secret sauce for making it to Oregon??

Ahhh! Best game ever! I was born in and grew up in Oregon and we played it at school in second grade. We'd huddle around the tiny Mac screen and insert the game floppy disk- SO oldschool! I always died of cholera or lost something fording the river.

@mrbee: I'm standing riiiiight behiiiiind yoooouuu....
J/K, I know where you grew up because I asked you in a different thread a while back and you told me what high school you went to, and I was like cool, that's super close to where I went to school!
Ok, I'll stop referring to myself as super-old in that case, you are definitely way older than I am.

OH my gosh, I loved this game growing up. You had your caravan, and would have to hunt and trade and fish and what not to survive the trip. Usually people died of dysteria or winter starvation or other sickness before you made it to the end. We were allowed to play once a week I beleive and we all looked forward to it!

I definitely made it to Oregon at least once. We were allowed to play once every few weeks in school, but we loved it so much that my parents bought it for us at home.

I made it to Oregon ONCE and it was basically just me by the time I got there LOL. Everyone else was long dead. I loved the game though!!! Fishing and hunting were the best!

So would you guys ford the river or calk the wagons and float?

@Mrsdaredevil: Oh my gosh I totally forgot about floating! I'm pretty sure that's what I did!

I remember playing this in school and LOVED it. I actually found the game for on my iPhone and DD plays it. Its much different of course now, just more things you can do like fish and pick berries. But still classic.

I remember playing this in elementary school and it was so much fun, and educational as well.

Only the best game ever! My brother and I also had Amazon Trail and Yukon Trail growing up. Anyone else?

OMG...this was what we did in "computer" class when I was in elementary school. the worst was when you had to get your wagon across the river and everyone would die!

we did this in computer class too! i would always name my kids names of people i didn't like and then if they got dysentery, i wouldn't be sad. is that horrible?!

@PearlBee: We had Amazon Trail growing up too! Loved it!
We started playing the Oregon Trail in school computer class in 4th grade I think, so some time around 1990. Back then you had to use the arrow keys to hunt (no mouse) and you could only hunt in certain directions so it was hard to get the fast animals. Then of course, the graphics got WAY better.
Now I want to play it!

@Running Elley: sooo weird -I made it to Oregon ALL the time. Maybe I was just really good
@Mrsdaredevil: Depends on the depth and width of the river. If the river is less than 3 feet deep at the middle, then I would ford it. If the water is really high I will pay for a ferry, or if my wagon is super heavy - like at the beginning of the journey.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: aww poor you!! I made it to Oregon nearly every time
Oh - and we had the high-tech version of the game!! It's much better than the other one.
