Everything off the walls first! Then all the kick knacks, things you don't need on a day to day basis. Then the week of the move, start packing up all the kitchen stuff, and then bathroom.

MY theory/strategy is boxing and labeling room by room. It keeps things organized and then you know where every box goes when you get to the new place. Hubs's strategy is throwing everything into a box, wherever it'll fit (and even if it doesn't fit). We are in the process of this and looking at his "packed" boxes makes me queasy. Unpacking in our new home is going to be a NIGHTMARE.

I HATE packing so I usually do it within a few days of moving, and I do it one room at a time.

I really like unpacking for some reason and that's when I find myself purging things I no longer need.

@petunia354: congrats! Our house is under contract with the same closing date - haha. Do you have a house yet? We don't...

We're tackling the places that we don't really use right now, like the closets and some of the kitchen cabinets. Also putting the decor away. Just getting down to basics until we can really start packing the big stuff.

I like to pack everything that we do not need on a daily basis first and really purging/donating stuff you dont use. Pack away stuff like winter clothes, random stuff you dont really use, seasonal decor, picture frames, paintings, etc. Go room by room leaving only the every day items. I HATE packing but find unpacking so much easier when everything is labeled and organized.
