I've read through the convertible seat posts but I am curious about what type of cars you have your carseats in. We have a Camry and a Mazda 3 and wherever the current carseat is, we have to pull the seat in front of it up pretty far.
So tell me - what type of car do you have and what convertible carseat do you use?

I have a 2012 Prius C and DH has a 2008 Yaris sedan, we both have Britax Marathon 70-G3's. They're a little big rear-facing but will be fine once he's forward facing and they're highly rated for safety and will hold up to 60lbs+ forward facing.

I'm interested in this too. We have a mazda 3 also and I'm not sure if there's a convertible seat that will fit well. I'd like one that would accommodate him until he needs a booster, but all of those seats seem like they'd be too big for my teeny car.

I have a 2012 Honda Civic and DH has a CRV. We both have Britax Boulevards that are currently rear facing.

Toyota Tacoma - 4 door - with a Graco MyRide65 in the center back. Sits fairly upright.
Volvo XC90 w/third row - Britax Boulevard in center. If it were behind one of the other seats, they would have to be pulled forward some to accommodate the seat.

I have a 2005 Honda Civic and just bought a Diono Radian RXT for it. We actually went to BBB and tried different carseats in our cars. I wanted two RXTs because they are supposed to be good for tall babies, but it would not fit at all in DH's 2012 Prius so we are still searching for an alternative for his car. She still has some time in the bucket seat.

i have a nissan rogue and a recaro proride, rear facing. rear facing it will only fit behind the passenger, but once he's forward facing it can go in the middle, but by then #2 will be here so...who knows! my husband has a chevy hhr and a britax roundabout, i believe his is in the middle seat.

I have a fisher price version of britax marathon (these aren't made anymore, but it's the same as the marathon) in my pacifica, it's great but didn't fit rear facing in our older toyota corolla well at all. Ff I'd imagine it would fit, but that you'd be kicked in the back of your seat because they'd be that close! We need to replace the corolla before a LO!

We have a Honda Civic and BMW 525i. We're looking at getting the combi cocorro since we'll have P rear facing for a loooong time, DS is still in a booster, and we'll likely need another carseat before P is out of the convertible... it's the only one I've seen that will fit 3 in a row and it's not as tall as most others so it should fit behind our seats just fine.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and a Recaro Proride. Any baby seat whether it is an infant seat or a rear facing convertible has to go behind the passenger side because I have long legs and need my seat back all the way. The Recaro was a better fit for the jeep than the Britax Boulevard (I tried both).
ETA: We have the same Recaro Proride in DH's Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab truck.

2013 Lexus RX 350 and Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 5/70 Convertible. We really wanted to have LO rear facing in the middle seat, but it just kept sliding no matter what we did. We have him behind the passenger seat using the latch system.

We originally wanted the same Safety 1st seat in both cars but it wouldn't fit in my Mazda. The Evenflo fits great and we don't have to move the passenger seat up much at all.

@sweetkate: We have the same car seat and nobody sits in the front seat in my car- Subura Impreza but fits fine in DH's Chevy Traverse.

@me0wmeeh: I have an RX 450h and saw something in the manual about how they don't want you to put a car seat in the middle seat, so that might be why?

@spaniellove: We were able to put the Orbit infant carseat in the center seat with no issues. It probably helped having such a big heavy base, its impossible with the convertible carseat. DH went on the lexus forum and everybody had the same issues no matter what brand the carseat was. So, probably, shrugging shoulders.

Volvo S60 and Toyota 4Runner - we have Maxi Cosi Pria 70s. It's made for cars that have a smaller legroom space in the back and are one of the longest lasting RF and FF seats on the market based on height and weight. Only the Diono lasts longer height wise. A friend is a car seat tech and she recommended it. We LOVE! (After buying and returning a half dozen seats that didn't work in the Volvo)

We have Britax Marathons in our Honda CRV and Hyundai Sonata. We don't have to pull the seats far up to accommodate them, thankfully.

@Weagle: Yes, it is, but that doesn't really matter for us since I don't think we'll ever need three across in the back. If width is a factor because you need three across, then look at the Diono Radian

@Mrs. Stroller: We don't need three across now, but we do have people riding in the backseat often enough that the Maxi Cosi would be a pain. We're switching from Britax to Dionos when we have a bigger car and #2 is ready for a convertible.

@Weagle: My best friend LOVES the Dionos in her car - she has 2 and an adult fits nicely between them on trips. When we travel I put the Maxi Cosi in the middle of the 4Runner and one adults sits on one side and the giant dog is on the other. I'm not sure it would be so comfortable in the Volvo!
