I can't stand when my food is ready and I can see it sitting there but the waiter/waitress isn't bringing it over.
What one thing annoys you most at a restaurant?

I can't stand when they never come to give you a drink refill. But I also dislike when they do after you've said no thanks because I hate to waste.

Servers disappearing and not checking in for refills. Especially if I ordered something spicy.

Vacuuming the floor next to our table. Seriously, I know it needs done, but it grosses me out.
This is sort of weird, but I also get annoyed when the server explains every step to me. We were at a buffet with DH's family a few months ago and the waitress was explaining all about why we had different sized plates and that they would have the regular plates clean soon and then she would bring those to our table. I just...would rather not have to know all the whys and hows of my dinner experience, I just want it to be pleasant.

Waiting a long time for them to come over and talk to you after you sit down. Ive walked out of places for this.

Listening to people being rude to the waitstaff. Snapping their fingers, yelling at them for how the food tastes (when they have no control over it), etc. I just want to get up and smack them.

My stepdad always makes lame, not funny jokes to servers. I've told him to stop and he keeps on. Server: is there anything else I can get you? Stepdad: a million bucks!
Lame!When waitstaff stands around being inattentive. Drinks not refilled. Not checking on you after food has been delivered. I waited tables for 5 years and seeing wait staff not do what they are supposed to do drives me nuts!

I'm with those who said never having them come back for a refill.
But lately? I get annoyed by the fact that DH and I end up next to a crying baby or screaming toddler every freaking time we go out for a date night! If I wanted to hear someone's kid having a 10 minute fit I would've just brought mine along instead of getting babysitter!

I was a hostess and server in high school and part of college. I get annoyed when servers aren't doing their job.

When we're done and suddenly the waitstaff disappears. I want to pay the bill and get moving. I feel uncomfortable sitting around after I eat.

when I have to repeat myself bc the server is obviously thinking about something else
we were at a brunch place that was pretty busy and I gave the server my drink order of iced tea. she had me repeat it 3 times AND she brought out the wrong drink. come on!

When the waitress or waiter has never served people with kids and they don't bring the side of grapes/carrot sticks/goldfish to the obviously starving toddler, they put all the drinks and hot plates in front of said toddler and fill the regular cup full of water and put on those flimsy fast food lids that leak and fall off.

Inattentive waitstaff - I shouldn't have to flag someone down to get a refill or to get the bill. I waited tables through college and know what it takes to give good service.

When a server forgets about our table. OR a really dirty table/window. Once we were seated at a "nice" restaurant (or supposedly) next to a window and there were SPIT balls all over the window! As in napkin and spit...probably a dozen little balls. Gag. It was disgusting.

I also hate it when the music is so loud you can't even converse with the other people at your table.

Poorly timed delivery of the bill irks me - I don't want to linger for hours after my meal, waiting for the bill, nor do I like when the bill is put down whilst I'm still eating my main, unless I have specifically requested it of course!

When I have to wait for the bill. And when they bring you your own container to put your leftovers in - if I wanted to do that I would have just stayed home.

Ugh, I could mention a lot of things, but service where I live is notoriously poor. It's like they don't even want you eating in their restaurant and they don't seem to care about wanting your money.

Empty drinks and having to ask for something more than once. You have to earn a tip!! I used to be a waitress and I'm totally okay with not tipping if the service sucks.

Waiting too long for anything. To be seated, for orders to be taken, for food to come, for the bill, ect.

Not much about waitstaff annoys me -- I know they can be super busy and deal with a lot of unpleasant people. I do get a little annoyed if the check takes too long. But mostly other people annoy me -- if they're too loud, rude to the servers, or letting their kids play on loud devices. Or talking on a cell phone, ugh!

@BakerBee: Oh, I'd much prefer sitting with an empty plate than to sit with an empty place while others are still eating. I feel like if they start clearing when one person finishes that they're pushing every one else to eat more quickly and leave.

@oliviaoblivia: Yes! So my two choices are sit their awkwardly with no plate in front of me or cause everyone to be rushed.
I suppose one option would be to stop eating at a rate that is comparable to a man on death row, but that just seems silly.
