LO is almost 10 months, but is still well within the allowable limit for the bucket seat. (He's 27 inches and about 17 lbs). We haven't gotten the convertible yet, but I think we will soon because he sometimes seems pretty scrunched in the bucket.
What size was your LO when you put him/her in the convertible?

DS will be 4 months in a cpl wks; but I'm sure is well past 16 lbs, 24 inches.... so we are in the market to buy!

We just switched her over about a week and a half ago. She was 27 inches at her 6 month appointment but she's almost 8 months now so maybe 28 inches? She was around 19 lb, 10 oz when we switched to the convertible carseat. She seems a lot more comfortable now.

At his last appointment he was a few ounces shy of 20lbs and was 27.6". He was getting heavy in the infant seat, seemed really squished and it was a fight to get him in and out of it so we decided to go ahead and make the switch a week or two ago. ETA: He's 7 months.

We switched her at around 10 months. We had a keyfit 30 and I think she was about 28-29 inches so she still fit but barely. She weighed less than 20 lbs but the infant seat was still getting heavy. She did well with the transition so if you think you are ready, go for it!

We are planning on doing the switch around 10 months. LO still fits the weight requirements but he definitely seems tight in there. And it's so heavy carrying him now in his carseat.

We switched our guy around 8 months because he was starting to look a bit squashed. At his 9 month appt he was 30" and 21 lbs.

We switched around 9 months when he was almost 30 inches and 18 lbs. But the nanny continued to use the bucket seat until he was a year.

We were using a hand-me-down seat, which needed to be handed back 
We just put him in a convertible seat yesterday and he's a little over 5 months. I think he likes it because it's cushier than the old infant one.
We don't like it as much, because am & pm naps stemming from the daycare ride are over now

She outgrew the bucket around that time because it had a 30" height limit and her head was about an inch from the top.
We moved her over around 10 months.

We switched at 10 months. LO was about 19 lbs and close to 30 inches. He likes the convertible seat much better because he can look around more and "read" books and stare at himself in the baby mirror.

I switched him at 6 months (he was 18# and some change). He was getting unbearably heavy in the carrier! I dreaded the move b/c he often falls asleep in the car, but he transfers into his crib surprisingly well.

She's 8.5 months, 18 lbs, and 29" and we are trying to keep her in the bucket another few weeks until it gets warmer so she can stay under the carseat cover and we don't have to deal with a warm jacket! We bought one convertible seat already and will buy another when DH gets his bonus at the end of the month,

My husband has the convertible in his car, she seems to like it more than the bucket seat at this point but I refuse to put the convertible in my car b/c the bucket is so convenient for naps!! We started putting her in his car in the convertible at 6 months.

We went with convertible carseat right from the start and skipped teh infant seat, so 5 days old on the way home from teh hospital?:)
We have the Combi Coccorro and it came with an infant insert. She is not 8 months and has long outgrown the insert. Here she is at 7 weeks sleep in the carseat.

DS is 12 months, 29" and 19 lbs. height limit is 32" and weight is 35 lbs so he still fits. We just got the new seat but he doesn't like it. So he's still in the bucket seat

LO is the same age and size as yours. We're still using the bucket seat, but only because we haven't taken the time to install the convertible seat.

@winniebee: Yep, she's a little one We went with the Britax Marathon. I really wanted the Diono Radian, but the Britax fit in our car a little better.

DD was switched at just under 10m because she exceeded the height; DS is 6m and we go Thursday for a checkup but I'm thinking he's getting close to exceeding the limits so probably pretty soon

We switched at 11 months, 22 pounds, 29". He was getting close to too tall according to the seat standards. The firefighter who installed our convertible said they were least worried about too tall, more about too heavy for the seat standards.
I vote to use the infant seat for as long as possible. Naps in the car have somewhat limited our activities, since if I try to take him out of the convertible seat, he's awake and done sleeping.
This is why we are currently sitting in the parking lot in the car waiting for his nap to end.

We switched at 9.5 months. DD was a little over 20 lbs and at her previous height check had been 28". She likes her new "big girl" carseat, but I do sometimes miss the ease of the infant seat. In any case, she was getting very heavy in the bucket seat, so I felt it was time to make the switch.

I like that we can transfer him w/ the bucket seat....but the hauling him up 3 flights of stairs to our condo in the bucket seat is getting to be a bit much, even if he only is 17 lbs! You'd think I would be so fit...not so much!

We didn't switch until LO was 13-14 months old. We have the Graco Snugride 35 and since LO is so dang short, she fit really nicely in it until then!

DS outgrew his infant seat in weight way before height. We switched and we conpletely out of it around 8 months. We only had a snugride 22 because my mom thought for sure we would not have a large baby based on my family's history, but DS hit over 20 lbs by 6 months. He was only 26.5" when we switched.

5 months not because of weight or height limit, but he really hated the Orbit infant carseat. He cried everytime he got into it, that doesn't happen now in his convertible carseat.

Just after 6 months because she was getting really long and looked uncomfortable in the infant seat. I can't remember exactly how tall she was but she has always been in the 90's in percentile terms for height. I think she was around 15 or 16 pounds then. We had the maxi cosi mico. I was also looking forward to putting away the snap n go for good!

We switched just after the holidays so 9 months or so? Had nothing to do with her size, and more to do with me not wanting to haul around a baby in a carseat anymore -- 16 lbs plus carseat is HEAVY!
We still use the infant bucket when we fly, and DH can easily buckle it in on days when he can do daycare pickup.
LO is pretty tiny but loves to stretch out in her bigger seat. I look back to see her full-on starfish often!

@winniebee: you could always leave the bucket seat in the car (ala convertible) and carry him upstairs - but have nap benefits if he is asleep?

@sorrycharlie: That's a good idea, too! Ultimately I think he is "over" the bucket seat. He yells getting in and out of it (he is not good with transitions!) I think he'd like seeing more of the world in the car : )
