As a kid, I'd be out the door at around 6pm but now that I'm a parent, I feel like 6:30pm is ideal. And no doorbells better be going off pat 8:30pm.

Our last ToTer came at 6.30pm. I'm glad they stopped nice and early because DD goes to bed at 7pm!

Between 6 to 9 seems acceptable to me. It really annoyed me when people would show up extremely early.

In my neighborhood growing up it started before my mom got home from work, so 4/5? And then it went AAALLLLLL night long, past 10!
I'm going to have to sit outside tonight... DD's room is right over the doorbell and she goes to bed at 7!

Anywhere from 6-830, but we are either going to turn off our lights or sit outside like @swurlygurl: because LO's room is right next to the front door and she goes down at 730!

I'm ok with anything up to 8:30, after that it's just obnoxious! I need to remember to grab some candy on my way home, haha. Hopefully they still have the good stuff at the store

I wish they wouldn't show up before 6. They're already ringing the doorbell.

Our apartment building told us to hang our participation decals from 5:30-8. I thought 5:30 was awfully early, as most people do not get home from work until 6. So, the ideal time would be 6:30 to me.

6:00-8:30 is ideal.
@swurlygurl: @Bookish: last year LO was 11 months and I just printed a sign that said "baby asleep. Please KNOCK (do NOT ring the doorbell)" and it worked. I taped it right over our doorbell

We don't have a set time in my city, but I think right before sunset through 8:30ish is fine.

6:30-8 seems good to me. but we don't have TOTers in our neighborhood. boo.

I'd be okay with the really little ones showing up around 5p. I saw a little girl out at 4 and I felt like that was way too early, but it's fairly likely she was just going to a friend's house for a prearranged visit.
@dc yoga bee: Decals are a great idea! Your apartment manager sounds super organized, if a little on the early side. I might have taken LO out if our apartment management had done something like that!

Umm I just finally got first trio of trick or treaters. Dang living on a cul de sac and the lead houses are dark. 7:15 is a little late to start...

@sandy: I worry about what will happen when we have a LO. I can't believe how many kids rang the doorbell repeatedly, then banged on the door and yelled at us - when we had the lights off!

We got them starting at 5:45, but the kids in our neighborhood are little and go to bed around 7:30. We didn't mind the early birds since DS goes down at 7:30 as well

@Rubies: Some kids rang our door bell 4 times in a row at 8:50. I had just put M down at 8:30. Luckily she didn't wake up, but I turned off our porch light and those kids got no candy!!!

6-9. This year we didn't get our first set of trick-or-treaters until 6:30. I turned off my lights around 8:45 since the crowd was thinning out around 8. I kept my light on in hopes of getting rid of some extra candy. I overestimated this year.

Our county has a set 6-8pm. We walked down to the end of our row of houses with LO and left our candy bowl on our porch. By the time we got back (10 mins later) we had no candy so we turned off our light s and locked up! Greedy!

Our city is pretty Halloween friendly, and it seems you'll see a lot of the little ones out by 5-5:30 and then you just go until the porch lights are off. At the house I lived in with my sister, we typically didn't turn porch lights off until 11pm because we lived in a popular ToT neighborhood.

We started at 6 and by 6:15 there were a decent amount of people out. We stopped by 7:30 and I sat with DD passing out candy. I think we got our last ones no later than 8 (and DD took it personally when people didn't come get candy, it was adorable and sad at the same time haha)

Between 5 and 8. But I don't live in a suburb where there are hundreds of kids. Only had 33, and the living room windows face the front, so I can see them coming.
