As many of you know, we have a 4 hour car ride coming up! I have a 3 year old and a 19 month old. Any tips on what we should bring to make the trip less miserable??

Snacks!
Small toys or books that they can hold in their seats
Tablets!

snacks, kid music.
The little one doesn't really play well in her seat. She mostly throws toys in the car, so we don't really go that route. Also, since she's rearfacing and doesn't really get screen time the built in tv doesn't do much for her. But she loves some music! And snacks!

DS loves to watch movies in the car. So a phone or a tablet (we have the kindle fire) work great for him. He also tends to fall asleep if we time it pretty good. Snacks are always handy, and we've had moderate results with a magnadoodle too.

Magnadoodle, tablets, snacks.
Four hours shouldn't be too bad.
I'd leave a bit before nap time, let then sleep in the car and then hand out snacks when they wake up.
We regularly do three hours that ends up longer because of traffic.
McDonalds ice cream cones work well in a pinch too.

We do a 22 hour trip each summer. For this year's, I have water wows, magnadoodles, new books, audio books, and reusable sticker books. I'm making magnetic activity trays with dollar store baking sheets, magnetic Popsicle sticks, race cars and alphabets and felt paper dolls. Add snacks, tablets and stops as needed. Good luck!

Snacks, toys, coloring books, drinks. Also, our saving grace - audio books. We listen to kids audio books and she is in heaven. We mostly listen to Magic Tree House books.

All K needs is usually tablet. I bought something that hangs off of the mirror to put the tablet in.

Non messy snacks, books, toys. If you have tablet that runs on wifi only then download movies and games that work offline

@looch: overdrive. We get our books from the library. We have also bought a few through Amazon so we have them at all times (they expire after a while).

We leave a bit before nap time. He is up for a bit then naps for a bit then has snacks. We regularly do a 3-4 hour drive depending on traffic. It's not bad at all.
We have a portable DVD player that we use when needed too.

My 21 month old did pretty great on our recent 7 hour car trip. We left after breakfast, before nap time, so she played in the car for about 1 hour, and then napped in the car for about 2.5 hours. We stopped for lunch, I let her run around a little, and we were back on the road. We sang songs, talked to her, etc.
We brought snacks, stuffed animal toys, stacking cups, balls, books, tablet. We ended up not needing to use the tablet!

Following! We have a 5-6 hour drive in a couple months. I need ideas for my 2.5 year old!

My 3 year old recently surprised us by being entertained by one toy for almost an entire 6 hour drive! It was some noise putty I'd picked up at a museum gift shop, but Target and other stores have it too. He couldn't get enough of the silly sounds.
Otherwise, we make sure to have snacks, his music, and a few toys to play with. It's usually helpful if one of us sits in the back with him (he's still RF). It's also helpful if we time the drive to coincide with naptime. Usually we manage 3-4 hours without stopping.

I don't think 4 hours will be bad at all. We routinely drive 8 hours to and from the Toronto area to see DH's family, and we drove all the way NYC-south Georgia with both girls last Thanksgiving, which was about 18 hours of driving since we had to stop so often with a newly potty trained kid.
Anyway, 4 hours will fly by--just bring some snacks, maybe some small travel puzzles, a magna doodle, some crayons and a pad of paper, and a phone with some tv shows or games. Now that the girls are "older" (11 months and almost 3), we can go 3-4 hours at a stretch without stopping. So for your trip, you can stop at the halfway mark or just plow through.
