I'm just about 19 weeks, pregnant for the first time, and other than some maternity clothes, I haven't bought anything for baby. I think I'm a little terrified and overwhelmed by everything out there, and I know I still have time. I also suspect that once I start buying stuff, I'll just keep going! So, out of curiosity, what was the first thing you bought just for baby?

I think mine was a gender neutral onesie after my first ultrasound

It was an outfit. I felt like I was lying, because I was barely in my second trimester and didn't feel pregnant. To this day (almost three years after I bought it) I can't get rid of it. Even after our shower and the crib being delivered, I still didn't feel like a baby was coming (but man o man did she come and change my life for the better!!!)

We actually bought the crib and changing table really early on as our first purchase - I think I was only 12 weeks at that point. There was a sale on Black Friday that we couldn't pass up.

The first time around I think it was the book Happiest Baby on the Block. At 5 months or so, I was ready to get something but still way too superstitious to buy things for the actual baby.

Two children's rice bowls, around 20 weeks. I was so nervous when I bought them! I'd been avoiding buying or doing anything that would make the baby seem more real.

I'm only 14 weeks and I've already started my cloth diaper stash and bought some onesies.

I actually started buying a couple of cute clothing pieces since we started TTC. First thing I bought when I found out I was pregnant was a Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bag for such a good deal at Nordstrom Rack! I figured even if I didn't use it, it'd make for a great gift! Same thinking for the clothes too.

I bought a football onesie for DH for fathers day. But for the most part I didn't buy much until after my shower. I wanted to see what other people would buy for me first

An 'Ithaca is gorges' onesie at 11 weeks. At almost 25 weeks I still haven't purchased too much. I need to get this show on the road.

Cute onesies from the Gap. One said I love mommy and the other said I love daddy :).

I think it was a crib mattress or the video monitor. We wanted to buy them on Amazon before Texas started charging sales tax. I was probably only at the beginning of my 2nd trimester.

I haven't bought anything yet. Waiting till we find out the gender to buy anything. My sister did give us a pink blanket, she says that baby is a girl.

we bought a funiture set consisting of crib, dresser and changing table. we got it when I was around 22 weeks because it was on sale.

a pair of blue socks at 18 weeks after my ultrasound confirming the gender.

Hubby bought a crib because it was sale, but the first thing I bought were Trumpette socks when I found out it was a girl.

not much. after our NT scan and the u/s tech told us 'pretty positive it's a boy' we were at a store looking for halloween costumes and bought one of those pacifiers that had a mustache on it...too bad we haven't been able to find it and now DS is almost 5 months old!

Oh wait, I lied. It was actually a football shaped mink blanket and a burp cloth of a football field.

A stroller! but it was before we even started TTC (bad, I know). But, I knew I wanted a bugaboo and would occasionally hunt on craigslist. Well one day I found one and somehow DH was convinced too because she kept throwing in extras and it was about 30% of the retail price

We were at an art museum in my first trimester and I bought an Andy Warhol children's board book. I couldn't resist! It did make me kind of nervous though, buying something so early.

I was replicating a baby shower gift for a friend (sushi made out of onesies, wash cloths, and baby mitts/socks). I had a leftover onesie and a pair of mittens for myself in the future. Then in the Sunday coupon stash, there was a coupon for a free bottle from similac that they were introducing so I picked one of those up since it was free! I'm not preggo yet either... Oops!
