I didn't really have any except #1 and #2 couldn't start with the same letter!

Has to be recognizable in English and Spanish.
Not in the top 10.
LO #2 can't start with the same letter/sound.

We actually only had one rule which made things a bit tricky, but simple at the same time. Since my husband is Indian, we decided we wanted a name that was both an Indian name and America name. For girls, we had quite a few names to choose from but for boys, only one that we both liked. So when we found out it was a boy, that was that!

--Easy to spell (with one primary spelling)
--Easy to pronounce
--Not corrected to a different name or spelling by the iPhone
--Not unisex
--Not religious/biblical
--Classic, not trendy

The name and middle name initials couldn't be S.N. because then the initials would be SNM (S&M haha). My top name for a girl started with an S but we had a boy.
If it was a girl the middle name had to be Leigh (pronounce Lee not Lei)

Flows w/ last name

Our rules were:
- No kreatyve or otherwise goofy spelling (it’s still the same name no matter how uniquely you spell it!)
- No stripper names
- Must pass the Judge/Senator/President test
- No names that are better as dog/pet names
- No name where you say “the name is X, pronounced like ___”. Must be obvious how to pronounce, not sounded out to every single person for the rest of the child’s life.

2. not too common but not too "out there"
3. Initials couldnt spell a word (weird, I know, it just bothers me)
4. Has to have a good meaning

@Mrsjets: We have the N issue too, our last name starts and ends with N so throwing more in the mix usually sounds funny.

-It has to pass the resume test so as much as I love it we will not be naming her Lulu.
-preferably out of the top 25.
-Easily pronounceable even if it is an uncommon name.

I almost feel like we need more because our list is all over the place!

Our only current "rules" are
-a real name
-firstmiddlelast(at)gmail.com must be available. Our last name is super common, so this is proving tricky...

No ridiculous spellings. Out of top 100. Not trendy, but timeless. Second name had to sound good with first child's name.

1) Not in Top 10
2) Flowed well with our last name
3) Preferably either first or middle would be a family name
4) Not currently used in this generation of McK's.
5) No unique spellings--D took it further, he wanted a name that only had one accepted spelling (so my name, Sarah, wouldn't have made his list, because Sara is an acceptable alternate spelling).
6) Passed the US President/Senator/CEO/University Professor Test (although who knows what those names will be normal in those positions 30+ years from now...)
7) We had to AGREE on it.

Not in the top 50.

Not start with a J (soo many J's in our family)

#2 couldn't start with a C or K (different sound from #1)

Not end in an N (My husband's requirement, to be different from the majority of boys)
