The reusable are much easier to take off in my opinion... Unless they poop then it's a lot easier to cut off a disposable!

I voted reusable - we got ours at target. The only thing that would make me switch to disposable is if my LO frequently went poo while out and about making it more likely that she would soil herself while swimming. My LO almost never went poo when we were out and about so I didn't worry about it

We just started swim lessons and I bought a reusable swim dipe by apple cheeks. I really like it. It has adjustable snaps so fits from 7-23 lbs. We haven't had a poop yet so can't comment on that but so far I love the reusable ones. They're super cute too! Seems like it'll save some money in long run as disposables are pretty pricey. When I go to cottage and Florida I just have to bring the one dipe instead of a package.

We love our reusables, especially as we go swimming nearly every day. They're easy to clean and so much cheaper than disposables. I will admit, cleaning them after LO does a poo in them is a bit gross, but it's honestly not that big of a deal. I also feel like the reusables do a great job of containing everything...I don't have the same confidence with disposables!

Sounds like reusable might be the way to go! I'm asking because I needed a gift for my in-laws to get Xander for his birthday and he has plenty of toys, so I was hoping they could get him some swim gear instead since they live on a lake!

I have the iPlay ones I think. They are good like someone else said unless they poop in them.
Here is what we have done. If its going to be a quick pool trip, like a swim lesson or just a jump in we use a reusable one.
But for vacation where they are going to be in it for several hours we used a disposable just in case they pooped over that longer time period.

The iplay ones gave lo a bad rash, so I'm scared to try another reusable.

@Smurfette: we have the applecheeks reusable swim diaper. it's not cheap ($20), but i wanted ones with snaps instead of velcro. i had heard the velcro can stick on other swimsuits and cause snags. i was probably being overly and weirdly cautious in this regard. otherwise i would have gotten the bummis swim diapers.
also, i wanted a swim diaper that came apart at both sides, like a real diaper. some swim diapers only disconnect at one side, with the other side more like grown-up underwear, meaning if the baby poops, you have to slide the wet swimsuit down the entire length of one leg while not trying to get poop everywhere.

Following! We are headed on vacation in April and will probably swim everyday, so I'm interested in the options.

@Smurfette: I use apple cheeks. There are three sets of snaps on both sides. They look just like a cloth diaper cover. If I had a boy I'd likely just let him wear that and not put a bathing suit over top. I put a swimsuit on my little girl over top.

I used disposable last year and they were annoying! I will try reusable this year.

I used ImseVimse last year and love them, but I may try an Apple Cheeks. I prefer both sides opening.

I didn't even realize reusable swim diapers were a thing! Brilliant.
Has anyone used them at places like the YMCA where they have strict rules (like my nephew had to wear a swim diaper and a plastic cover over that and the instructor checked).

It depends where we are swimming. If it was the ocean, I would put my son in just his swimsuit, it has the netting that was very close fitting and it would catch the poop if he did any.
For a pool, I prefer a reusuable, because even though the disposables don't "hold"water, they get really waterlogged and bulky.

Bummies reusable have been out go to with a skinny kid. We take him to lessons once a we and have only had one issue when he had a very loose bowel movement in a pool (wouldn't have taken him in if I realized he had been ill.

We have a reusable for weekly swim lessons, love it! I tried disposables a couple of times and hate them. They are awkward, don't fit well and get waterlogged.
iplay is a great brand (occasional sales on Zulily) as is just the generic Speedo style from our local swim school.
@Foodnerd81: We swim at the YMCA all the time and ours its just fine with the cloth swim diaper, no need for a plastic cover. Ours just checked to make sure it fit well.

When she was smaller, we had to use the reusable ones because nothing else fit. But now that she's bigger, I like the disposable ones because the reusable ones always seem to cut into her legs.
