@Mamasig: I visited NOLA for the first time in June and just fell in LOVE with the city! The food and the music.... amazing!

@Mamasig: Same here! (Well, on the Northshore until I was 18, then into the city proper).

@prettylizy: I love my city! You get spoiled living there - the food never tastes as good anywhere else! I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself.

Grew up 45min north of NYC...first picture is what it was once known for, beautiful setting along the Hudson (where Washington had a headquarters)...second is its current claim to fame, the crime rate. Sigh.

@lovehoneybee: I grew up in mid city until I was 4 and then moved to the westbank. I ended up going to high school uptown. Now I live outside of Baton Rouge.
Where are you now?

@Mamasig: Central Pennsylvania. I came here to stay with a friend's mom after Katrina and never left (meeting D was a huge part of that).

Lots of NYC iconic photos so I'll focus on neighborhoods. I grew up on the border of Crown Heights & Bed-Stuy in Brooklyn. Photos represent the Crown Heights Riots, the brownstones Bed-Stuy is known for, and a mural featuring the Notorious BIG.

Hm, I don't know what is considered iconic! I grew up in central CT which is the birthplace of Noah Webster and just down the road from the Mark Twain house, where he lived from 1874 to 1891. He wrote some of his most important works during the years he lived there, including Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.
Not too exciting over here!

I grew up and still live in Dallas, Texas. Obvious claim to fame: assassination of JFK.

I grew up in a small, southern, coastal community. Many movies and shows are filmed around here (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Summer Catch, Secret Life of Bees, One Tree Hill, and recently, Safe Haven). It's cute and "quaint" and everyone knows everyone's business lol.

I grew up in a small city north of Toronto. Claim to fame? The first known recipe for the butter tart was written here.

Not sure how iconic this is for other people, but I grew up in South Florida, which is well-known for golf courses, beaches and swamps. Glad I don't live there now but it was a fantastic place to be a kid.

@Dandelion: Keuka is my favourite Finger Lake!
I grew up in the Cheshire countryside, south of Manchester, north of Stoke-on-Trent. Pictures are Mow Cop (a folly built on the last hill of the Pennines by some rich dude once upon a time who wanted an "interesting view" from his bedroom, Jodrell Bank Observatory (the Lovell Telescope specifically, tracking space probes and looking for quasars), and Little Moreton Hall (a moated, half timbered manor house built in 1504 - does a mean afternoon tea now).
(I've never added photos to a post on here, apologies if they end up mahoosive.)

@MrsStormy: Crescent City!

I grew up in a couple different places.
First famous for Kalamalka Lake, the "Lake of Many Colours"
and the second famous for Stanley Park - Canada's largest urban park, recently voted as the #1 urban park in the world by TripAdvisor.

I grew up in DC. Rock Creek Park is where I played and hiked with my dog. The monuments look even more spectacular when the Cherry Blossoms bloom.

I grew up in San Diego. As a kid, I used spend the weekends lounging on Coronado beach, listening to "slow jams" with my BFF while obsessing about boys. My family would also go grunion hunting there during the summer.
The second picture is Balboa Park, my favorite place to visit.

I am so so so jealous seeing these photos!
I grew up in a dull, purpose built city in the U.K, fifty miles from London. I guess it's a little famous for its concrete cows.

I grew up & still live in a suburb of Rochester, NY. Not too much iconic about that except the garbage plate Yum!

Farmland and Francis Scott Key.
Also, we were 25 minutes from Baltimore, 45 minutes from DC (on a weekend, without traffic).

@mediagirl - EC is my hometown! It IS too expensive! My brother moved to Westminster to escape the housing prices.

The town on Long Island where I grew up is famous for housing the facility that built the Apollo Lunar Modules and has also hosted golf's US Open a few times in the recent past. Oh and the recent live version of the Sound of Music was broadcast from there.

Grew up in Orange County, one city away from Disneyland-- I actually worked there all through college!
