I know a lot of people live in their cars (me!!), but what does your car look like right now? I'm curious! Could you give a friend a ride this second without being embarassed?
I started a little detailing business and 90% of the cars I get are in rough shape. I'm trying to figure out if it's normal, or if only people with messy cars go get details?

My car doesn't look like that! I've got kid crap all over it. Toys, papers from school, etc. Day to day my car smells fine, but if it rains suddenly I have this horrendous odor that clears again when my car dries up. We have no idea what is causing it.

i would say that my car is a bit messy and chaotic! Not dirty though!

I used to take great care of my car and leave it pretty spotless, but ever since DD.... It's not nasty dirty like the picture, it's just stuff and trash all over the place!

Ew is that mold? No! I might have loose papers and dirt/dust but nothing even close to that.

Our cars are close to spotless. We have strict no eating and no drinking anything except water rules. Dirt or sand from our outdoor activities sometimes piles up on the floor mats, but we're pretty good about cleaning them out routinely.

DH's car is spotless.
Mine is super clean, but there are some toys in between the car seats.

Mine has the random crumbs and dust, but it's not really dirty. I'm more embarrased by the crap that collects - work papers, clothes, shoes, I don't know what else but it seems like a lot of other stuff too.
I'd be that weird person that cleans up my car a bit before I get it detailed.

Your picture helped convinced me to get a steamer! Ours is messy and LO's side needs a cleaning because of her shoes scuffing the seat (backwards facing).

I mean, I need to vacuum the inside (I have long hair and dogs who shed) and the outside needs a bath (but, hello monsoon!) but my car hasn't looked that bad since I was a teenager. I have no problems giving anyone a ride in my car!

I've got some lose papers and articles of clothing in the back, some candy wrappers and water bottles in the front, but other then that it's clean. I detail it every few months myself.

Wow that is super nasty! I don't think I would even get in that car. Mine has kid crap, toys and the occasional pouch or goldfish, but I use the DustBuster daily on it and it's leather so it wipes clean.

I've got sun hats and coloring books on the seats but it's pretty clean.
There's a stain on the back seat from where a catering tray dripped oil at Thanksgiving. It's been cleaned but still stained, maybe I should get it detailed!

My suv is almost spotless, but it's brand spanking new and I make sure that the kids I tote around don't turn it into a disaster zone, so it's only dog hair that I really have to contend with

@808love: I agree. My car is no where near this dirty but I still always give it a once over before bringing it to be detailed. I don't expect them to throw out my trash!

It's crazy how many messy cars I've seen then haha. Maybe it's a utah thing. Mine isn't this bad either and I know growing up there wasn't a single thing in my parents cars. So weird.

Mine's pretty clean (I think). It could use a light dusting since there's some crumbs from DS eating in his car seat and a few milk spots on the seat next to him, and the floors mats could be shaken out/vacuumed, but otherwise, it's not bad.

Mine is clean- I just washed and vacuumed it yesterday!
However I would love to get it detailed! All the nooks and crannies have crap in them and the floor boards could use a good scrub!

Not that bad at all! I wipe it out and clean it out every time I get gas. It could use a detail though (especially around DD1 seat) but all I can say is YUCK on your picture!

My car is a little messy with kid toys and some food crumbs (I often give DS snacks in the car), but it looks nowhere near as bad as that pic. I clean it out at least once a week, so nothing gets caked on for weeks at a time.

When I'm working during the school year, I commute 2 hours each way and then I have to get home and walk up a flight of stairs holding LO, her daycare bag, my work bag, etc....so then, the car can get pretty messy because I can't hold other random items (art projects from daycare, etc), so they pile up in the car.
But right now, in summer---both of our cars are spotless!

@anonysquire: mine is a disaster This weekend we are going to wash the outside, clean the upholstry inside and vacuum. It needs it badly. Maybe I'll take a picture.

I have always taken really good care of my cars. That said, since having my daughter it has slowly accumulated more and more JUNK. And crumbs. But NOTHING compared to that photo you shared! I am itching to get out there and clean it out, but it's just been too hot lately.

@anonysquire: since you are detailing cars.... what should I use to clean the plastic (?) part of the floor?
Ignore the dirty carpets - I imagine a good shampoo will get them clean.
