Bee sent me to the store to buy sour cream but they didn't have any, so I bought crème fraîche instead. It actually looks and tastes a lot like sour cream!
What's the difference between the two? I googled it, but found it kind of confusing to figure out.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think crême fraiche is creamier. As in, has more fat than American sour cream.
I will say, though, that when I lived in Paris I used crême fraiche for all of my recipes calling for sour cream, and it tasted just fine and normal. So I do the inverse now that I'm back - sour cream for crême fraiche! Go with the locals

both are cultured creams....kind of like how a cabot cloth bound cheddar and a regular grocery store cheddar are both cheddar cheese....but taste totally different.
Most of the time, sour cream is an industrial product. Creme fraiche is what happens when you add some buttermilk to cream and let it sit out for a while.
