I once had to manually enter dental records into a mainframe. I was so incredibly bored, I would go to the bathroom and take naps on the stall.
What's the most boring job you've ever had?

I took phone orders for a company that sold male potency meds. It was my part-time college job that paid really well per hour! It was super boring. Once in a while there would be exciting stories to share. But overall, pretty boring.

I was a secretary for my aunt and uncle, and they rented and sold arcade games, pool tables, etc (bar stuff) One would think that would be like the most fun job in the world! Well.....only the ones in the shop were broken...so no playing them. What did I do all day? I filed CD's for the Juke boxes....

I worked in our college library as a book shelver. That's right, I loaded up a cart of books, made sure they were magnetized and then put them back on the shelves individually. I would always abandon the cart upstairs and find people to talk to/bother/entertain?, because man was that a lame job...

@tororojo: I'd love that job... I'd be excited to learn the Dewey Decimal System!

I was an office assistant for an Italian grocer in the North End. Except they didn't really have an office. And they certainly didn't need an assistant. But it paid really well and it was super flexible. I basically sat all day reading books. Sometimes the owner would have me walk his dog.

Data entry for sure. I was inputting hand-written surveys into the computer for hours on end. Luckily it was just a temp job and I got hired for the job I actually wanted a couple of weeks in.

@mrbee: It was actually the Library of Congress system, which is way more complicated! But it came in handy because I would never have been able to find a book in that place otherwise. We had to pass a test in order to qualify for the job, so clearly it was prestigious!

I was the receptionist for the gym in college. I had to check people's id's as they came in. And that's it. For 4 to 6 hours a day, twice a week.
On the upside, I pretty much got all of my homework done during my "work" hours each week.

@mrbee: Taking naps in the bathroom - that's hilarious!
I actually worked at a fabric store for an interior design company. It was so boring!!

I was a telemarketer one summer. I sold "accidental death and dismemberment insurance". Believe it or not, I actually was pretty good at it and sold a lot of policies!! Hahah, it was a horrible job...

I did a summer internship kinda thing for Transunion in college, doing writing for their website rebrand. It should have been great but it was so incredibly boring. All we did was have meetings and we didn't meet any of our goals and I didn't do hardly any writing because the management couldn't make up their minds on anything. In general it seems like the whole place was boring to work for because I would walk past cubicles and full-time workers would quickly shut down news sites and crossword puzzles in their browsers.

I removed staples.
Seriously. I worked for this tiny microfilming business and we had boxes and boxes of dental records that were stapled together. The pages needed to be separated before going into the microfilm machine, so I would be a human stapler remover for 8 hours a day.
I worked there for about 1 month before I quit.

Answering phones for a small credit union's car leasing department. That was mind numbing. I wasn't even allowed to surf the internet.

I worked at a dry cleaner in a very bad area of town. I was so bored there that one time I fell asleep and slept through closing. When my boss called to find out where I was for the clothes drop off, I hopped up. My leg was asleep and I sprained my ankle very severely. I was so embarassed to hobble up to them at the end of the day!

@JessLC: LOL I don't even know how I managed to work there for that long! It was SO HORRIBLE.
