We tend to use natural consequences as our discipline method. If you misuse something, it gets taken away etc.

Today, E got hold of her advent calendar while we were cleaning the kitchen and, in an attempt to open the windows, ripped it to pieces. She knows that you only get to open one window a day and really, really looks forward to it. It's the first thing she thinks about in the morning.

I've told her that the calendar needs to go in the bin now and discussed how her actions mean she no longer has an advent calendar. She understood the concept but I don't think the reality has hit home. I guess it will come tomorrow when she has no window to open.

Did I do the right thing? I just feel so sad that her inability to control her three year old impulses is going to mean she is punished every day for two weeks. But to buy her another would undermine the consequences.
