I am not dressing warm enough at work and I know I need to get a few things to update my work wardrobe. I am leaning towards warm sweaters, skinny pants, and boots. Maybe a scarf?
I am little clueless as to what looks good. What do you wear to work when it's cold? If it helps, I work in a small high school so I need to look professional but comfortable and modest!

I wear pencil skirts with button down shirts and sweaters, dresses with cardigans or blazers - mostly all with tights.
Or leggings and tunics or short dresses with boots.
For me personally, wearing tights makes all the difference and keeps me warm (and I'm always cold!!)
ETA: I just keep pumps at work and travel back and forth to work in winter boots

I am dressed like I am going to the Alps today:
fleece lined leggings, socks, sheepskin lined suede boots (not uggs, but structured sole and leg)
ponte skirt, wrap top, fleece vest. I am a little warm, lol.

i'm a high school teacher. i like to do layers in winter because i can get too warm while teaching if i'm wearing a thick sweater. i do a nice tshirt or long sleeved tshirt and layer scarves and cardigans etc. but i'm not super fashionable so take my advice with a grain of salt!

I usually wear boots over skinny jeans with a sweater on top. I don't have any dress code so I try to look decent but I don't dress up.

I have a uniform of sorts. It's either dress, sweater, thick tights, boots or skinny pants, nice top + cardigan or sweater, long socks. boots. Top it off with a scarf/coat. Et voila!
ETA: Sometimes I sub a sweater for a blazer. You get the idea!

I work in a middle school: Tights or leggings, skirt, top, cardigan. Or tights/leggins, dress, cardigan. Or switch out the cardi for a blazer. I sometimes wear pants,with the same stuff on top.
I change out boots or flats, just depending on the overall outfit.
Accessorize with long necklaces or scarves,

@bpcmarj: I should say...my husband commutes to work by public transport and walks a lot. So he wears thermals (the silk kind) under his work pants and button up, with a heavy coat on top. When it's REALLY cold, a knit hat, scarf, gloves, the works.

Thanks for the suggestions! I need to find some more fleece lined tights, a pencil skirt, and some slim pants

@bpcmarj: Target for sure! Gap is also great when they are having a really good sale. I often get cute scarves as presents so you could always ask for some for Christmas if your family isn't sure what to get you!
ETA: Oh and H&M usually has some great basic ones. Very long and soft!

I worked in elementary education, so my work style might be a little on the casual side. I have a plethora of scarves, so I'd definitely suggest getting a few nice ones - they keep you warm, while still looking stylish and professional. I wore skinny cords, dark denim, or fleece lined leggings and paired them with long, chunky sweaters.
As for footwear, I did boots (not uggs), or warm moccasins. A waist length or cropped pea coat can be worn all day, too.
I'd occasionally wear knit headbands to keep my ears warm, if it was particularly cold.
I shopped Target, Gap (sale) and various outlets (J crew, Banana) for good deals. Walgreens has fleece lined leggings for $5 a pop!

@bpcmarj: There are so many cute sweater dresses at Target right now (as well as Ross, Marshalls and TJ Maxx if you have those stores). I love wearing them with tights/leggings, boots and a cute scarf.

and i regularly wrap myself in an LL bean desk fleece throw that is marketed specifically for that purpose!

I have to wear skirts/dresses, so my go too is a nice thick skirt/wool dress with tights, sweater, boots, and a scarf. My office is always cold so I really double up! Today i'm cheating and wearing fleeced lined leggings & boots with nice thick socks!

Sweater dress with tights and booties or open-neck sweater with slacks. Open neck is V or scoop or cowl, just something not restructive.

@bpcmarj: If you are looking for really cheap solid scarfs Walmart has them for less than $5, and htey hold up nicely! I bougth one in every color when I saw them there. Otherwise the teen stores are a great place to get fun patterns at a cheap price for scarfs! Some of my favorites are from Forever 21!

my job is very casual (we can legit wear PJ's if we want to and have for dress-up days....) so I wear jeans and sweaters/sweatshirts. I try not to look like a slob, but I'm all about being comfy
