I craft around the house a lot. Running used to be my #1 hobby and I'm hoping I can pick it back up quickly after this baby. I also love baking but that leads to eating sooooo I don't do it a lot lol. I'm planning on teaching myself to sew.

    @Shutterbug: HAHA

I barely have any hobbies! I do like to run, I like testing out tons of make-up which is actually a super expensive hobby, I decorate my house on paper and try to find inexpensive items to follow my plan!

@mrskc: That's an interesting problem... I did a quick google and found this. I had issues too and this helped me. I wish I could see your machine I'm pretty good at finding the problem with sewing machines :).

If your top tension is not TOO tight then your thread may be catching somewhere. Follow everywhere below the needle where the thread can actually touch the machine. Sometimes after a needle hits something it leaves scratches on the metal that the thread catches on and breaks or cuts. A big problem is the hole that the needle goes through on the needleplate. These get gouged up and the thread catches there. Needlplates are inexpensive and easy to replace (search online) and probably it will solve your problem. If the burr is below the needleplate like on the rotating hook then it needs to be polished off with emery paper. A good way to find out is by running your fingernail over everywhere the thread passes over. You will find the problem.
    Good luck.

@mrskc: I can try to help you figure out your machine if you want!

@TurtleDoves: snacking is one of my fav hobbies!

I love sewing and think it can be cheap if that's your goal (like anything else you can also sink a ton of money into it). Reading, crosswords, cooking, volunteering. Entering sweepstakes.

Geocaching is a fun thing we haven't done in a while.. Used to be into horseback riding.

Oh and planning trips we can't afford ha!

I knit. At least I used to... Knitting is a great hobby to do while watching tv (I get the most projects finished during football season)

My other hobby is online shopping and it's a bad one.

@Raindrop: So I bought this machine last summer while pregnant to do some nursery crafts. It's a brother XL-2600. I hadn't sewn in almost 10 years, so I didn't want to spend a lot on a machine, so I just got something cheap. I sewed curtains and a couple pillow covers just fine. Then halfway through making some basket liners, the thread started breaking. I checked tension, replaced needle, tried different thread, made sure I threaded it correctly, so it must be catching somewhere like you said. I guess I didn't think of that because it was a bran new machine. There must be a scratch somewhere. I was 8 months pregnant at the time, so I just gave up and it's been sitting in the closet ever since.

@scg00387: I seriously need help. lol see above ^ I'm not very experienced with sewing machines.

Photography. I love to take pictures and DH bought me a nice camera for Christmas last year and I am trying to learn more, but I really need to get on it - my pictures are never crisp!

Sewing - mostly small projects that don't take too long, but I have done a few quits. I loved it, except actual quilting together
    the "sandwich" is really hard!

Baking - Fall baking is THE BEST!! So excited!

Thrifting and antiquing. I am obsessed with old crap.

I also love to write (I used to want to write a funny memoir like David Sedaris), sing, play piano, write music and lyrics (before baby i would sit at the piano for hours), and craft.

I'm also obsessed with decorating. Usually with old items I found at a flea market and then refurbished in some way.

Oh, and spray painting. I like to spray paint items in my house when I get bored. Vases, lamps, bookends, tables, pianos. ....whatever!

I've been shoving them in my face and washing them down with a beer. It's my husbands last overnight shift of a two week stretch. I'm limping toward the finish line.

When I'm rested and not on the verge of nervous breakdown, I like to run, hike, garden, sew, cook, play soccer and read

Recently took up making bracelets! I have made 4 kinds of bracelets from honestlywtf.com DIY series - it was easy once you gathered all the materials together.
