We usually get our first snow late October and some throughout November but the snow that stays and is really cold starts in December and will stay usually until April. This year it didn't stop snowing until mid-may!

We've already had a bit in the mountains. But down in the valley in October usually.

@MrsKoala: @Danizaur: I'm going to keep my fingers and toes crossed that we all get relatively snow-free stress-free deliveries! (A light dusting of pretty snow is acceptable :P)

@OldEnglandMama: I told DH we are going to get a home birth kit ready just in case we get snowed in and he has to deliver the baby. (Half joking)
The look on his face was pure terror. Lol

@Danizaur: Bwahahaa. Not a bad idea.
My DH starts his clinical rotation in OB/Gyn the month *after* our due date. Typical bad timing. I'm wondering if work can put me on report writing/some sort of written work around my due date so that I can work from "home" - with home being DH student housing in Maine so that we're at least in the same state. I'm so scared of going into labour and delivering alone (with medical professionals obviously) in Massachusetts. I know I'd be fine and well taken care of but I don't want a snow-storm to keep DH further than that 3 hour drive so that he ends up missing the main event!
I'm still trying to decide whether to stay with my midwives in Maine (a 2 hour drive for me, they say I wouldn't be the first and they have people who drive further from Western ME, and a 1 hour drive for DH) or switch to a similar group in MA (at least a 40-45min drive, traffic permitting). My FIL really doesn't want the baby to be a "Masshole" so I joked that he can start driving from NY when labour starts and at least get me over state lines to a NH liquor store or something. But seriously...what do I do? Ugh. Maybe it'll be clearer once I've moved and settled, and maybe know some people in the area.

It usually snows by mid December and it'll last until April. But in the last two years, it started snowing by mid October and stayed the whole way! Despite the fact that it's Sweden and images of polar bears roaming free is what usually pops into people's minds, winters are surprisingly mild (no blizzards, no wind chill) and there's no polar bears The coldest nights around here are the ones without any snow or when winds come in from Russia.
The lack of sun is what truly makes it challenging! Aside from the extremely short days, it's also gloomy. There's times when you don't see the sun in weeks!!!

I wish it snowed in lower Alabama but it rarely happens. I would like to be able to wear scarves and not look silly. Or maybe actually be cold during Christmas instead of wearing flip flops.

We'd get snow when pigs fly here in San Diego. The mountains in the East County get a dusting maybe twice per winter but nothing major. My in-laws live in MA so they get snow from Nov till Feb or so.

I think last year we had a blizzard around Halloween. Hopefully it'll be a little later this year! (Boston)

Where are you, @jh524:? It's probably the same storm we are getting. I'm kind of excited, hoping Farmer Man gets to stay home and get baby stuff done around the house.
