At the library the other day I heard a 22 month old little girl completely spell her name (it's a shorter name) for her mom. My kids are 3.5 and 2 and can't do that! My youngest knows her name starts with S but I guess J and 3 sound too similar to my oldest because she always tells me her age when we talk about it.
I'll be honest, I'm not the best "activity mom" but I had no idea kids were out there learning this stuff so early!

He started spelling it at 2, but the nanny made up some song and he memorized it. He can spell the short version (3 letters) and the long version (6 letters).
I am not the activity mom either and I think she just randomly made up the song and it caught on. He can pretty much learn anything (including our address) if it is presented in song form. I'm the same way.

DD is just about 2.5 and has been able to spell her name out loud and with her letter magnets since she was 26 months (or right around there). Her name is only four letters. She is completely obsessed with letters though.

She was writing and spelling her name long before 3 but it's only 4 letters and they are easy to write.

I think around 27 months but it's an easy name and she almost always sings it to the tune of Bingo thanks to the post linked above. She recognizes the first letter of each of our names but not​ too many other letters.

I think she could spell it out loud and write her first initial by around 2.5, type it around age 3, and she could definitely write it by age 3.25 (possibly earlier but I don't really remember, even though it was only a few months ago!).
I'm not "activity mom" either but she is just really into letters.

I can't remember - - I'll be honest, this isn't something I would even think to worry about or consider any sort of milestone. Just because some kid can parrot something back at 22 months doesn't mean they necessarily understand it, or could apply it, etc. Like, what if that girl can "spell" her name out loud but doesn't know any letters and couldn't actually identify the letters of her name?

He turned 3 in march and he knows how. It's only 4 letters. Today I was filling out paperwork and I said hmm what's your name again? And he loudly spelled it and the office we were at was impressed. It was funny. He only knows it because my mom painted it on a rock and before bed he holds the rock and we tell him the letters.
ETA: I don't think it really matters when they can. He doesn't know all the letters but knows about 1000 trucks so I think he could if he liked letters as much as trucks haha.

By age 3 for sure. I didn't know he knew how until I asked him to say his name for a video I was recording and he spelled it instead.

I've never thought to ask her to till recently... She'll be 30 months and I def never asked before she was 28 months I'd say. Her name is super easy though... Only 4 letters.

I think somewhere between 3 and 3.5 for my older son. I do know that my friend's DD was doing it much younger, like well before 3.

LO started spelling and writing her name at 2.75. But, it's only 4 letters and two of the letters are the same.
At nearly 3.5, she's extremely interested in writing (gibberish and asking us how to write real letters).
FWIW, LO's teachers (she goes to a Montessori program) have emphasized following kid's leads on writing and letters, because before a certain point, it really doesn't matter if they know their alphabet if they don't have the context to use it. So, we are no-pressure, but we will show her letters if she asks.

I don't know when exactly - Xander is 4 and can spell "Xander" (but still struggles with his full name). I think he could identify all the letters in his name before 4, but not necessarily put them all in the right order.
ETA: Logan is 2.5 and can't spell his name. He doesn't even know the full alphabet yet. I'm not concerned.

2-2.5, but his name is 4 letters. At 3.5, he can spell our quite lengthy last name.

Somewhere around 2. He's 2.75 now. His is short though and the letters rhyme so I think it's sort of easy to remember.

around 4 i think. he was aroud 2.5 when he could do letters but he had no idea how to spell his name at that time. i wouldn't worry at all!! my second son is two (three in august) and has no idea how to spell his name

A little before age 2, but she loves the alphabet and letters and numbers and is constantly pointing them out when we go places. I blame sesame street, ha ha!
She's 2.5 now and can recognize all her letters and numbers and is working on words...but she can't take her own socks off!

Around 3.5-4. He started writing his first and last name at 4. His handwriting is improving now.

By age 3 she could spell her name (6 letters) and by age 4 she can write it somewhat legibly! I didn't do anything though...it was all preschool!
