With DD, we shared with close family by 5 weeks, extended family (grandparents, aunts/uncles) by 9 weeks, facebook around 11.
With this one I've felt much more cautious..protective? I have no desire to share aside from hb. I would like to tell my Mom, but part of me wants DD to have the only attention for awhile longer!

With DS we shared with family at 9 weeks and the rest of the world at 13. With this pregnancy, my parents found out immediately, ILs found out at 12 weeks, and we told everyone else at 13 like we had with our first pregnancy.

@coopsmama: glad to hear someone didn't do ILs and parents at the same time. last time ILs told the WORLD at 5 weeks. we went to a funeral the day after we told them, and I had people congratulating me at the dang funeral!!! when they'd ask, "how far along?" and I answered, "5 weeks" they looked visibly shocked. thanks, MIL.

@Pepper: I'm hoping to wait for a gender scan as well to post to facebook. I find that family members are horrible with pestering when they're allowed to post on facebook (at least, last time they were). why does EVERYTHING have to be on facebook!? oyyy.

I told my mom, dad, mil, and SIL around 5 weeks and other family around 8 weeks at our Fourth of July cook out and then fb around 13 weeks after my nt scan

@sorrycharlie: ahhh WHAT is with IL's?! My in laws did something similar, but not as terrible, with our first. They announced it at a party at their home that lots of people at our church were at...and we weren't even there! Granted I was 12 weeks but still -- totally not their place. That's why we waited to even tell them this go around.

With DS we told our parents/siblings right away. We were coming off of 2 miscarriages and wanted to make sure we had their support no matter what happened. We also wanted the pregnancy to have a chance to be celebrated...with our MCs we were waiting to tell our parents but then when we lost the babies we wanted them to know so we had to do the whole "I was pregnant...but we lost the baby" thing and that was just...harder. We didn't announce on FB until 13 weeks.
With #2 we told my parents at around 7 weeks and waited to tell DH's parents. We announced at 13 weeks again.

All of D's family: 7 weeks...it was Christmas, and I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to share then.
The rest of my family: 8 weeks, after our first U/S
Close friends who would be annoyed to read it on FB: after 8 weeks, before 13 weeks.
Everyone else (aka FB): 13 weeks.

We told our parents/grandparents/my sister at 4-5 weeks, extended family at 8 weeks and fb at 10 weeks (I'd had 3 ultrasounds and desperately needed to feel like I could "celebrate" the baby at that point).
Next time, I'll probably do it the same, except wait a bit longer for fb/the rest of the world. If I get the materni21 test again, I'd like to announce the pregnancy and gender at the same time around 13 weeks.

The first time, at 12 weeks. Even family, except my sister, had no clue. They were a little sad that we didn't tell them sooner so this time around we told everyone at 7/8 weeks and Instagram at 10?

Parents/IL at 12 weeks. FB at 27(?) weeks -- probably would never had made a FB announcement but there were obviously pregnant photos posted of me so I thought I should make an "official" announcement.

With DD we told close family at 7 weeks and friends at 12. I think we announced on Facebook at 14 weeks. This time we're not telling family or friends until 12 weeks (easy as we live overseas so they won't suspect) and Facebook can wait until 20 weeks. We will tell friends who we see regularly though before then, just as soon as my first ultrasound is done (as long as it's okay).

Close family at 15wks (we wanted to do it in person and was the closest after 12wks we could do) and everyone else a few days later. I would always wait until 12wks for future pregnancies.

We told my parents right away, his parents at 6 weeks (after hearing heartbeat). I also told my BFF right away.
I can't even keep track b/c so many people ask and found out between 6 wks to now (10 wks). We're gonna tell all other family after the 12 wk appt. We probably won't announce on FB till 18-20 weeks.

We told our parents and siblings really early (6-8 weeks) because we wanted the prayers for a sticky baby and knew we'd want their support if we miscarried. We didn't make any other announcements until 14 weeks. And we didn't say anything on Facebook until the birth.

With DS we told everyone after the 1st trimester. For this pregnancy I told my mom right away. We told DH's family at about 8 weeks. We will tell FB after 1st trimester.

I chose not to be super private with any of mine. Told parents immediately with all of them. The first I announced officially at 9 weeks, which turned out to be all of 3 days before I miscarried. Which sounds awful but I was actually glad to have people know. We got a lot of support. The second I was waiting until betas came back, but they came back bad so I just let people know we'd had another loss once we were sure. This time I think I made it to 6 or 7 weeks before announcing? And it's stuck, so no regrets there.

Family & close friends was right away. Next round we will wait longer for close friends, one had a big mouth and I still haven't forgotten it, I was so mad at her! she will be last to know this time

I was the opposite as you - LATE with #1 (family at 12 weeks, 'FB official' at 14 weeks). EARLY with #2 (family right away, 'FB official' at like 7 weeks).

With my first I told close friends and family as soon as it was confirmed by the doctor and waited until 12 weeks to tell everyone else. I'm pregnant a gain with our second and my four-year-old daughter told everyone within about 3 seconds later.

My parents and siblings at 6 weeks. IL, 9 weeks (waited to tell in person). Close friends 9 weeks. Extended family and work 15 weeks. Put on FB at 20 weeks after we found out the gender.

Parents on both side--as soon as we found out. As for Facebook... I'm almost 33 weeks and I haven't really made any sort of "announcement". I've posted pictures of me with my big belly twice after the 28 week mark. With DS, I announced on FB at 20 weeks.

I would like to wait with the ILs because of the big mouth syndrome (and, trying to put off the drama as long as possible!!!). but also worried NOT telling right away will cause more drama, if anyone remembers the shitshow from my pregnancy with my daughter.

Did anyone decide to not tell their parents until further along in the first trimester?
Hubby and I are thinking we'd like to do a special "grandparents" gift announcement to them and make a big deal of it but we personally don't feel comfortable doing that until we've had our first scan and know for sure everything is ok.
Plus, the in-laws are notorious for not keeping ANY secrets so I don't think we'd be comfortable telling them earlier than we're ready for everybody to know.
Are we being terrible???

I'm a horrible secret keeper, so it's always sooner than I intend! This time we'll tell our parents when we see them in the next few weeks, so between 6-8 weeks.

Shared with immediate family shortly after we found out with each pregnancy. I wanted their support if something went wrong which it did 3 out of the 4 times. With LO, I didn't share with anyone else in person until I was 14 weeks, and didn't share with FB until I was 20 weeks.

1 3-14 weeks with R for mum and IL's. Around 17 for friends and rest of family. 15 weeks with S for mum and FIl. 17 weeks for MIL and friends/family. Didn't put on FB until they were born.
