I am newly pregnant (just about 4.5 weeks) and as this was a wonderful surprise-- I hadn't thought about any of this prior to conceiving. Luckily my regular doc is a highly rated OBGYN that I love, so I called her up and I already have two appointments scheduled (5.5 week nurse appointment for blood work and do's/don'ts and 8 week ultrasound).

The issue is... I'm not entirely sure I want to go through the whole pregnancy and deliver with this doctor. Although I love her, she only works out of a hospital about 20-45 min away (depending on traffic). This has never bothered me for my regular visits... but I am not sure this is the best idea for the birth. Especially because I live literally 1.5 miles from another hospital.

The convenience of being so close to home (especially because we have 3 pets that will need to be cared for and it would be great for my husband or parents to be able to run home and back in 5 min rather than an hour) seems huge to me. But I hate to leave the doc I've had such good experiences with.

My current plan is to get through 12 weeks, just to make sure everything is sticking, and then think about switching. But is that a bad plan? If I think I MIGHT want to switch, should I do my research and decide now before the 8 week scan?

If you switched doctors for birth-- when did you do it?
