My LO is 8 months old and I want to take her swimming at the YMCA. When did you first take your LO swimming in a public pool? I have a friend who won't take her baby as she says there's too many chemicals. I can see that, but I'm not sure if she's just overly cautious or if it's valid. I used to go as a baby! There's pictures of my mom swimming with me- I looked so happy!!

We started swim classes at 7 months with LO! I just tried to make sure he didn't drink the water, and tried to rinse him off after (but didn't always get the chance to do that).

we took DS last summer when he was 6ish months old.
DD went swimming after her 1st birthday I think. -
I'll be taking DD for the first time this summer! She's 15 months.

We just took C this past weekend, a day after turning 8 months. She loved it, no fear (obviously we were holding her). The pool was warm-ish, but definitely not super warm, and it didn't bother her. I can't tell you how cute she was.
We just rinsed her off right away after-- I brought her in the shower with me and rinsed with her bath soap. She always has dry skin, and to be honest, she does have a few patches that seem worse than usual. I'm not worried about whether it's related, but just putting it out there.

We've just started swimming classes at 10 months. I just make sure to rinse him afterwards. He loves it!

We took him into a hotel pool at around 6 months, and then took swimming lessons at 9ish months. I just made sure to rinse him off afterwards.

Early, around 4-5 mo? Also the YMCA. Ours uses salt water rather than a lot of chlorine (it may still have some). I avoided having her put her face under until she was older.

I'm taking her on Monday for the first time ... She is 6.5 months!

We put Sadie in our pool on Memorial Day last year, so I think she was 3.5 months. She was going in regularly in June when it warmed up, and we took her swimming all summer. She loved it!

8 mths! Went to myrtle beach and he loved the pool and ocean!

8 months on vacation and she loved it. I just made sure to give her a good bath shortly after to get the chlorine and sunscreen off.

I think she was 5-6 months. I always give her a bath afterwards though.

we took her for her first time when she was 4 months old. She loved it! She was so calm! We did swim lessons this Feb, she was 7 months old. She liked them but not as much as the first time we went.

Right before 9 months, swim class for babies at the YMCA! We rinse him off with water afterward. I don't love the chemicals, but I think teaching him to be comfortable in the water overrides that concern for me. Plus, he loves it!

We started swim classes at 6 months. Swim teacher commented that it's the perfect age to start. LO does great! She's so easy going and loves it.

We took her in around 2-3 months. Earlier than I had originally wanted, but it was like 110 degrees outside and we wanted to go for a dip.

10 weeks - we were on vacation and just dipped him into the pool a few times. But he spent a lot of time at the pool last summer between 4-6 months - he loved it!

We took her for the first time at 4.5 months. Our community centre pool is salt water, so it seemed like it might have been a bit less chemically.

just after 5 months. she's a little fish at 14 months! she loves the water. we also go to the YMCA pool.

5 months. I asked the doctor aboutthe chlorine and she said it wasn't a problem.

I took her when she was 3 months old but the pool was a little too cool for her and she wasn't impressed. I keep meaning to take her again but I never seem to have the time.

We took him to swim class starting at 12 weeks. It was a warm 93° F pool though.

My LO isn't here yet, but I can't wait to take her swimming!
My Mom took me to Water Babies classes, and encouraged us to swim every summer, and I can tell that it's made such a difference in my and my sister's swimming abilities and confidence around water.
Swimming isn't just an exercise or entertainment, it's a basic skill that can save your life. My kids will absolutely start swimming as soon as our ped says it's ok!
