LO is 4.5 months and she is getting heavy especially with the carseat! When did you start or plan to start just carrying baby instead of carrying the carseat into public places?

6 months. We got rid of the infant seat and switched to a convertible car seat.

She's 6 months now and I still carry her in the car seat. Our car seat is one of the heavier ones too. I am going to just start carrying her soon - or maybe just pop her into a carrier when I take her out.

we started carrying our son at 6 months. he got too heavy to lift the infant seat in and out of our car, so we switched him to the convertible car seat. just like @Andrea.

LO is 6 months and we still carry the carseat. But she's getting really heavy!

My preemie twins are now 7 weeks old and 7 and 9lbs. They're already heavy to me in the carseats! I don't think I can carry the carseat much longer... Gosh, I'm such a weakling!

Ugh, this is a good question. Our LO is 5 months old. She's not really a heavy baby but coupled with the carseat it feels like she's 25lbs. We still carry her in it but it's getting so tough!

We transitioned our LO to a convertible at 7 months. I stopped carrying her in the carseat early on since she was too heavy. I wanna say I started carrying her sans seat at around 4 months.

I don't plan to ever carry our son in the carrier unless he's sleeping and I don't want to wake him. I'd much rather take him out than lug that big thing around if I don't have to.

I stopped carrying the infant seat at around 8 months, it's just easier to carry her now! Or put her in the ergo.

@MegWag: ditto.... we don't carry baby + carseat together unless she's sleeping. if she is awake, i'd rather have her in my arms or baby carrier

I usually put her straight into the stroller because it's a travel system.

We did a convertible seat from birth so we have always just carried LO. If sleeping then we put LO into the pram or bed.

We switched to a convertible just shy of 6 months. For a good month or so before that I could barely carry him in his Chicco, but he is a big baby.

I never carried the infant seat alone, if it came out of the car, it was plopped onto the stroller frame. I think I used it twice alone when we went to visit friends and they had stairs to their apartments, but that's it.

Oh boy are we behind... my 9.5 month old is still in his infant car seat. I carry him in the car seat in and out of the house, which isn't far -- just front door to the car in the driveway. I just calculated the Graco Snugride 35 without base plus my LO's weight, and the combo is 25.75 lbs. Eeks! It's hard to break a habit, and I think the colder weather makes me reluctant to bring him outside without his car seat.
Luckily we just bought him a convertible car seat, and I'll have no choice but to strap him in the seat inside the car.

We stopped using the infant seat at ~6 months because he outgrew it. However, I rarely carried DS in the infant seat even from a younge age because I prefered to carry him in my Sleepy Wrap or Ergo over using the infant seat/stroller combo. Even now I carry him or use the Ergo. Our stroller is rarely used.

I used a convertible seat from the beginning. I used the infant seat in DH's car a few times-- like when I had to take him with me for a hair cut, it was handy to plop him in the seat-- but 99% of the time he was in the convertible. It was hard before he could hold up his head (we're in an apartment, so locking the door, going down the steps, loading baby and stuff into the car, etc. was hard when I needed to use both hands to hold his head up), but once his neck control improved, I never wished I had the infant seat.

4 months. He just go too heavy to carry in the infant car seat because he was in the upper percentile range in weight. We usually took him out of the car seat unless he was sleeping and we didn't want to wake him.

My baby doesn't like the carseat really, so I hardly ever carry him in it, only if he's already asleep, which rarely happens. I put him into my moby the majority of the time
