That was such a sweet gift idea!

I have to say I wasn't the first to do it with my LO - it was daycare at 6 months. They do some kind of craft with them every day so I get lazy about doing more with her at home. I'm not too crafty either so I'll be keeping an eye out on this thread for ideas!

@artbee: I think they used pencils, markers, crayons, chalk and paint and just let them fool around mostly. It was a lot of doodling and hand prints as first. As she got older, they started gluing different things on paper, like cotton balls and popsicle sticks.

I don't think it is too early! I think these things are very important to start early and it seems to make a difference once they start writing letters and numbers for real -- since these crafts work on fine motor skills -- so I am told by my friends with older kids who have been there done that.

And of course it helps them learn their colors, too! My LO knows her colors now because of all the arts and crafts she has done I am sure.

That's so cute. I love, love, love arts and crafts. I have so many ideas I cannot wait to do with LO. I think early is fine. I have always thought allowing kids to express themselves with art is a great thing for them developmentally. I think I'll do little things as early as 9 months?

My LO isn't born yet, but when I was a nanny I would make instant pudding and sometimes add a little food coloring and let the babies play with it on their high chair tray, they loved it. I would also take paint and put it on the tray let them play with it then take paper and kind of transfer it to the paper, it turned out very cute! I can't wait to do these things with my LO some day
