I'm in the process of looking for one bc I want to take her in around 12-13 months.
I read a article that suggested taking them in for a fun visit first. I like that idea!
Did you meet with dentists like you did peds?
How did their first dentist experience go?

I'm planning to take her around 18 months. My SIL is a hygienist with a dentist that specializes in kids. Hopefully her presence will help!

OMG, I totally didn't even think about it! LO is 17 months...But only has 8 teeth! Hmmm.

Our first visit was 18 mo. I went by friends referrals and didn't go check it out first. First visit was extremely uneventful. He checked to see how many teeth she had in and told me which ones were still to come in. He rubbed her teeth with gauze since at that pint she was screaming bloody murder. It's good to get them used to it first though, and we have been every 6 mo since then! Oh and it's a pediatric dentist we see and they get stickers and a goody bag after the visit.

Haven't thought about it yet, but I'm due for a cleaning so I'll have to ask him while I'm there what the protocol is.

@chopsuey119: you should soon! I read a shocking article today regarding kids and dental hygiene. I know with my dentist I have to book like 2-3 months ahead.

Our first visit was at 1 year and it was more for fun and getting a history started with a dentist so should something happen we have a dental home for my son. We asked our dentist for pediatric dentist recommendations, did a little research of those, and selected from there. The first appointment they showed my son around, showed us how to to brush his teeth, and took a quick look at his mouth and we were done.

we took charlie when he was 2, but will take olive sooner. she is much more of a scaredy cat though while charlie wasn't scared at all!

I kinda want to especially with the about of times he's banged his jaw and bled! I want to make sure he didn't ruin anything lol knowing him he's probably bite someone if they stuck their finger in his mouth lol! He is 10.5 months and I think my ped recommends appts starting around a year??

We saw a pediatric dentist at one of our baby classes and he said as soon as they have a few teeth, bring them in for a fun visit. I got this baby banana toothbrush teether that's supposed to get them used to brushing their teeth early, mainly because it's adorable:

@JerricaBenton: cute! I got her a 2 piece starter set by Gerber. It's got a gum massager and a rubbery toothbrush. It's got a shield attachment so they don't stick it too far down. So far she likes "brushing " her tooth while we do!
@Mrs. Pen: mine reco'd at a year too. They've got posters up around the office.
Juice in sippy cups is a big one that causes cavities!

I've heard of places that will do a quick little peek a boo visit that only lasts a few minutes for kids that are under two. We are supposed to take our LO this month.

my dentist said that we dont really need to take him till he's 2 1/2 - 3. i'll take him there though,... i love my dentist and i've been seeing him since i was 6!(24 years!) he's not pediatric, but i think that'll be fine
