One of my LO's daycare teachers told me babies really start communicating with words when they start walking.
Was this true for your LO?

If that is the case then it's never going to happen! lol! LO barely pulls up and has NO interest in standing for long periods of time or walking.

My son walked at 12 months and had a major language explosion at 21 months (repeating, sentences, vocab, etc)

@prettylizy: yeesh...I feel the same way! My LO likes standing but has no desire to walk. Plus, at 11 months he just started babbling!
I think there's a huge language explosion at 18 months.

LO is 13months and has been walking for a month now. She only says dada for daddy, so we're still waiting for a word explosion.

i think 18 months was the turning point where Charlie was learning a new word every single day. He already had about 40 words that he acquired slowly over 6 months, but 18 months is when the real explosion happened. He started walking at 13 months and most babies that are walking have little or no words in my experience!

Hmmm, DD was walking at 10 months, and though she signed, she didn't really start talking until 12 months. I'd say she had a verbal explosion around 15/16 months where she started saying a lot of words, and then another one at 21 months, when she started talking in full sentences.

No language explosion when she started walking . She has a normal vocab for 20 months but it's been very gradual, she does seem to be trying to imitate sounds more and more recently so maybe an explosion will happen sometime soon.

Mine was a very early talker, very late walker. She started using about 5 words at 12 months, and really exploded after that. She just started walking right before 16 months. She has about 100 words now at 17 months

Yes, that was true for my LO. She started walking at 17 months and that's when the talking really started taking off too. She was getting a word a day for awhile..... until she learned "no." then she stopped with that one because she liked it so much, she just wants to use it all the time and no other words.
