For me, I feel most on top of parenting when I'm able to watch both kids while I simultaneously do a chore. This has only recently become possible, as Olive is now a bit older and doesn't require constant supervision.

It was hard at first to do chores while watching the kids because you have to be constantly aware of where they are and whether or not they're in danger. The other day I was wiping the floors when I saw Olive climbing onto Charlie's little chair and I suspected she might fall. So I went behind her to spot her, and she fell backwards and I caught her before her head hit the ground! I felt like a good parent in that moment.

When stuff like that happens, I feel like I've gotten the hang of parenting. It feels possible to raise kids and still keep the house from falling into horrible disrepair. Sometimes (usually?) that feels impossible!

When do you feel most like you've gotten the hang of parenting?
